Frogboy - Plans 4 Shellstyle dot Dee Ell Ell?

I imagine your coding minions are working hard to fully implement WB 3x features, but what can you tell us about shellstyle.dll skinning. Close, not for a while, fuggedaboutit?

It's coming.

Here's the deal:

It coudl be done in an afternoon if we required skin authors to include a shellstyle.dll with their skin. But that's such a hack and very skin author unfriendly.

What we want to implement is where the shell style is part of .UIS. But to do that will require some work. But it is definitely coming. We're anxious to address this since this is really the last significant part of the XP interface that we don't yet support.

That was that conversation moving completely over my head.

Sounds Great, what part of XP are we talking about?

I'm glad you are addressing this, it's the one part of XP that really annoys me! It looks so out of place when you open your folders and it's a completely different color to the skin you are using. I look forward to it.

I have my Explorer Bar set to folders. Don't even see that blue stuff that often unless I go into the Control Panel's offerings or do a F3 search.

/me hates the new search in XP

Just had to get that off my chest

I've been making "custom" shellstyles using Reshacker for a while to compliment some of my favorite WB skins and XP visual styles. It's not too hard, just replacing some bitmaps.

I agree that it should be part of the .XPstuff section of .uis. Good luck working it all out.

does this mean that the user accounts area, the search pane, and the simple view of the control panel will also be skinned in .uis? or will they remain luna blue as well? and what about programs like photoshop 7 that take unique parts of the shellstyle and use it within their interface? (ie: the little round buttons in the upper right corner of palettes are out of the shellstyle)

If it's in the shellstyle then yes, we will be supporting it but we don't want to be distributing copyrighted DLLs (every shellstyle DLL floating raound may be illegal).

Photoshop 7 is a special case because it is doing very specific things so specific things will have to do be done to support it.

Adobe better hope that MS doesn't change things in Longhorn or Photosohp 7 will need an update to work on it.
