joetheblow joetheblow

The Nickname we choose....

The Nickname we choose....

Why did you choose the nickname you chose???
I chose joetheblow because I'm just an ordinary Joe Blow. I put my pants on one leg at a time, I have a wife, 2.5 kids, single, live with my parents, about to go to a retirement home, highschool teenager, college graduate, voting, non-voting, citizen, alien, yada yada yada...you get the point.

So I have meaning behind my name. Does yours? Or is it just a name you came up with? (nothing wrong with that!!!)

I have alsonoticed that some people wanted to change (or have) their nickname, why???

Mr Benn was a kids TV cartoon show in the 70s - don't know if it was shown anywhere outside the UK. Because of my surname (Bennett) I have always been called Ben or Mr Benn.

Back in 1999, when I started my first real job in a bank. There were a few young guys there and we were just starting to get into HTML. We were discussing email names and domains and stuff, and my email [still is] decorum2000. Decorum is the name of a band I play in. So I picked that.

My mate Stu said, that's gay, why don't you have a cool email address, like ninja space monkey, or something.

That got me thinking, and after we got into HTML a bit more, I registered the domain name planetmonkey.co.uk in 1999/2000, and set up a crappy site. Just because I thought it would be a cool domain.

And now I use planetmonkey as my handle for loads of sites. Although I don't use the domain anymore (I think it redirects to my new site.)

I've since register lunamonkey.co.uk (this is not a shameless plug), but I never use it as a handle. It just didn't stick. [Luna has nothing to do with XP, Luna as in moon.]

And that's the story of my stupid handle.

My real name's Chris, but I'm about 200,000 members too slow for that one

Extract from my 'ReadMeFirst.txt' as included in my LiteSTEP themes....you know, the bit you are 'supposed' to read FIRST....like you are 'supposed to 'RTFM'....

"JAFO" is Airforce/Navy derrogatory slang for an Observer [co-pilot].
[The movie "Blue Thunder" with Roy Scheider made reference to the term].

I've worked as an Observer[communications] Official at the Australian
Grand Prix for the past 23 years [and the 500 Motorcycle Grands Prix - MotoGP], World Superbike Championship, US Le-Mans Series, World Touring Car Championship, and not to mention the first Nascar race outside the U.S., hence the name.

BTW, JAFO = Just Another F**king Observer.
[People only ever seem to be aware of the Trackside Flag Marshals, and any
other Trackside Officials go un-noticed.]

My sympathies go to the family of the Fire-Marshal who was killed at
Monza 2 years ago [2000].
And to the family of a friend and colleague, Graham Beveridge, killed at
Turn 3, during the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne March 4,
last year [2001].

We do a dangerous job.

somewhere around the time I hit puberty, I started feeling very weird everytime there was a full moon. It was very distressing to me and my brother (with whome I shared a room My parents built me a special bedroom below basement level and told me I had to stay there when I started feeling this 'weirdness' at night. I kept asking them why all this was happening, but they never really told me anything, just vague references to a "family" thing and "oh, it's just your hormones kicking in" and "everybody goes through this", yada, yada. Until the 'change' started. It had gotten to a point that it was very hard to just ignore all this stuff and follow my parents blindly. So one night, during a harvest moon (also a blue moon iirc) I went down in my little room, but I jimmied the lock so it wouldn't engage when my Dad locked it. I went to bed. The next day, when I woke up, I noticed that all the muscles in my body were really sore and I had scratches on my legs. I had absolutely no idea what had happened. This was pretty scary. I ran up the stairs to find out, once and for all, what was going on. When I got to the kitchen, my Mom and Dad were sitting at the table along with a very odd looking gentleman.......

Hey, wouldn't it be cool to write a story one sentence at a time, where each entry had to be made by a different person?

That would probably suck...actually, each writing one paragraph would be cool, with like 3 sentences per paragraph max, so you can get an idea across before someone looses the momentum

A few years ago, I started a small company making flight cases, (You know, those silver shiny metal boxes that protect cameras and musical instruments etc.) and I needed a short snappy memorable name for advertising. I came up with BoXXi, 'cos it looked good on the letterheads when the two X's were written in a different font.

What an exciting story! yawn..................

/me wonders if werewolf displays any Lycanthropic tendencies?

BoXXi wonders if werewolf displays any Lycanthropic tendencies?

well, when he gets all hairy and growley he makes an exceptionally good cat bed, and when he wakes up is great fun during hunting games in the forests

looks like everybody has a story to tell about thier name. from :I couldn't think of anything" to "theories of existance".

I just wanted to be a regular Joe, doing my thing. But somehow I end up doing more than the regular Joe.

aren't we all Joe Blow's???

Ok, my nick came from a Taiwan movie of the first 90ties: "Rebels Of The Neon God"... wow it sounds cool! I choose it 'cause it seems to me like something metropolitan and nocturnal, underground, a nick in the cool hacker style, like names of the characters in cyberpunk's stories from William Gibson or films like "The Matrix".
Bye
