AI doubles its starting ability points.

i did some testing by spying within the first 5-10 turns on the AI (foreign relation, stats tab) to find out about what abilities they tend to choose and whatnot. i made a shocking discovery. 

when everything is default (fresh install, no civ has been edited) and you start the game the AI will pick random abilities. so far so good.

if you then restart the game as another civ and make the AI the civ you have been playing earlier (with ability points spend of course) they allocate another set of ability points adding up with the ones you chose effectively giving them double the ability points.

this seems like a bug to me. if you edit the AI it should have the bonuses you set up and not an extra random pile of bonuses they couldnt have possibly gained through anomalies.

I was always under the impression the AI didn't use its ability points. To level teh playing field, I always picked useful abilities for them that fit with their playstyle/racedescription. Turns out I wasn't leveling the playingfield but instead just gimping myself? Well... I do love an unfair fight, I suppose... ;)

before starting the game on the opponent selection screen you can edit each individual ai player. under personality tab you can give the ai extra ability points. chalanging gives 0% extra and tough 50% extra by default. however even if you set it to 0% extra points and assign abilities for the ai yourself the choose extra ones. unless of course my espionage tab lies to me.

so what i do is simply assign a political party i think fits the race and reset the ability points. that way the ai can assign them as they see fit, meaning at random. would have been cooler to design specific abilities to even further enhance their strength. but why give the drengin even stronger military when they then pick some extra economy and diplomacy bonus which basicly leaves them without any meaningful weakness at the start of the game.

anyway awesome game. i really hope they make a third one after they put out one or two expansions for fallen enchantress, which i like aswell :-)
