Start8 terribly slow to populate

Hi,

I'm trying out your Start8 against some competitors start menus, some free, some not.

However, during trying out of Start8 what I notice is that when I first start my Windows 8 computer if I go to the Start8 menu, it takes a terribly long time for it to actually populate with the information that would normally be there.  Sometimes even just trying to open the start 8 menu will make it pop open with no information inside of it, and then within a second or two it will close again, and do this every time that I try to open it until the computer has been running for a while.

Is there anything that can be done about this so that it actually acts like my old Windows 7 start menu where when I click it right after starting my computer it is populated with all the information that it's supposed to be showing me?

Start8 should be populating it near instantly.

Do you have any pinned items or recently used apps that show in the list that are stored on network drives?

Also are you using v1.03?

using v1.03 and no network drives .

also while its blank and waiting for the contents to populate the "shut down" button says "ut dow" :/

Did this happen with previous versions for you? (or have you not used earlier versions of Start8?)

yes happened with previous versions, was fine for a while, then started having the problem.

switching off windows defender fixes it, but i'd rather keep defender running.

boot drive is an ssd so it should all be pretty fast.

Where are start 8 contents stored? Maybe i could exclude that path in windows defender
