I have the same issue.  It seems to happen if you start Control Panel after a reboot.  I usualy do this to check for updates.  I am using w7x64 Ultimate.

DUI70 is the Windows DirectUI dll.  Used by explorer for quite a bit.

Hello,

I thought the problem was solved by using Fences with exclusions i Kaspersky but it persists.

Customer service were not helpful; they could not pinpoint the problem and Fences 2 continues to crash Windows Explorer to unbearable, frequent level.

Aa suggest in another thread, I set Fences to run in admin mode and I also remove the Files and Folder fence (my idea) aand 2 desktop.ini files that were placed on the desktop by some program.  Hopefully the problem will go away.

I think that the trouble begins when you have moved (or copied) something from one fence to another. I wonder if thumbnails get corrupted after something is moved.

Still crashes Control Panel.  My problem report is DPU-648-26911.

If you have not sent this to support@stardock.com, please do.

I have sent the crash info to support@stardock.com.  I will assume I didn't need to open a new ticket and referenced the existing one.

I keep the fences hidden unless I click on the desktop.  For those who have the crash issue, do you also do this.  I also only have once fence.

Sending the crash info is fine.  We'll look into your case.

I am going to wait a bit after booting to check windows updates and see if that has any effect.  I also will add a shotcutcut for wuapp.exe and then add that to a fence and see what happens.  My normal routine is to check for updates even before checking my email.

As for me I am still waiting. Hope I get a satisfying answer before the next version of Fences.

It happens to me as well now. I just was updated from XP Pro to Win7 Enterprise today and installed Fences 2 and now immediately when I start Fences the Explorer crashes. That is 3 to 4 times in a row and then Fences gets deactivated as it recognizes something is wrong. On my home system with Win7 Home Premium I had it running without any problem as well as on Win8 Pro. So now I went back to the Fences Pro Versions but it keeps doing the same thing. Very annoying and sad, as I got used so much to using it.

On your W7 Home Premium/W8 Pro, is it 32 or 64 bit?

After I installed some new updates from Microsoft it seems that the problem has disappeared. (I had uninstalled Fences and when I found the updates, I installed them and reinstalled Fences.) I hope it's for good.

@martyxx56: Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit, Intel Atom N550, Asus Eee PC, which I use to browse the internet and work - so my desktop is often cluttered with documents, folders, etc. Fences 2 is the ideal solution. I had dreamed of such a program for months and then some weeks ago I came across it.

Thank you for your help and dedication.

My win7 Home Premium and Win8pro are 64bit. The Win7 Enterprise I don't know currently, will have to start the laptop later. Submitted a ticket as well.

Edit: The Win7 Enterprise is also a 64 bit version.

Ok,

I now had Windows Update run and install some outstanding Windows Updates (against the company guidelines as they are supposed to come centrally from the IS department). This obviously resolved the issues. At least I experience no more issues until now.

Hmm.  So not a Fences issue at all.

I'm not surprised.

For the time being, windows explorer crashes each time I restart my computer. There is an improvement, before it was unbearable. However Stardock should find a solution to this.
