Adding horses to units

If this is possible, I'll probably feel like a dumbass for not figuring it out, but can you give horses you have stashed to currently active units, especially champions?  I have 76 and it will take quite some time to use them all up through training new units, so it seems a waste to spend 120 gildar per horse at the town shop.

No. You must buy the hero's horses in shops or find them on quests. The horses you have stashed are for troops that ride.

Champions must buy horses in the shop (or find them in loot...this is...better buy). No way to ship your farmed horses to them.

To allow horses to units, you must research Mount tech in Warfare Tree. After that, you can see horses in the design unit screen. The same for wargs.

Bleh on champion horses.

I know I can design units to have horses, but is that the only way to add them?  Kind of wish you could upgrade units to have horses like you do with armor and weapons.

Definitly THIS, I want to be able to dispact wargs/horses on units that are on foot. That would really fit in terms of gameplay and rpg/strategic experience.

Not sure though how to balance the cost of it (given the VERY expensive upgrades that are armor ones), fetching and giving 4 horses to your 4 archers would amount to 480(for horses)/ 800 (for warhorses), which is TOTALLY too much ^^. Half or 2/3 of the normal cost for champion would make it appealing for exemple.

A unit trained to fight on foot would require extensive re-training if they were to be equipped with horses.

I did my turn in the army, and I have tried riding a dog sleigh. Thinking that normal soldiers should be given giant wolves to ride on make me believe it should be more of disbanding the unit than upgrading it - or at least it should require a special spell or 600 gildar of dog-food.

Well, as wargs and horses are different resources, I guess it would require a button upgrade for each one.

Yes, mounted units are faster, better,...and if you have footmen with high level, it would be nice to give them a mount. Or to the many foot troops because could not find mounts in early/mid game. I don't find it necessary, but if it is implemented, it is wellcome.

Talking about mounts, I would like to give a bear mount to a juggernaut ;)

I understand that foot soldiers where tried to fight on "foot" but let's be "real"; in this game you hurl fireballs and summon demons and such. It's a fantasy game. Archers with platemail...upgrading troops that were trained to fight in leather armor to platemail also. So put on a hefty price tag, make it so you have to be in a city for 1 or 2 turns to process. I think it should me done. My opinion :)

I was pretty sure you could not upgrade your units to have horses but now I know for sure, thanks for the answers!

Try the Children of Storm mod - the Frost Giant faction can ride dire bears.

+1

Awesome idea!

Implementing horse/warg mounts in the Upgrade screen would be really really awesome.
