bash ability...prone?

Can someone please explain the bash ability and getting knocked prone to me because I don't seem to be getting it.

I thought it meant the target loses a turn but every-time I use it successfully my enemy just gets up and attacks me anyway.

The only thing I can think it does is make the target spend its movement points by standing up but if so then that is kind of weak as the AI is already in your face so it would probably just attack you and not move anyway.

Please tell me there is more to this because it sure seems very weak compared to back-swing and counterattack especially considering the initiative penalty you often get with it.

They spend a turn getting up; however, as you pointed out, a lot of times the initiative causes the victim to go twice in a row.  The hammers work well if you have initiative bonuses.  Also work well against elementals, especially the banishing hammer.

you do still make them use one of those turns getting up, how is that a bad thing ? Or do you mean it should be more obvious that is happening ?

I guess I have just been facing off with opponents that always have much higher initiative then myself. I'll have to keep a closer eye on it.

Thanks!

Never hurts to have some spear or sword guys in there next to the hammers to inflict some extra hurt, plus they don't have as much of an initiative hit.  You can also design your hammer troops to use mounts if you have any kicking around (and you've done the research) which will reduce their encumberance (giving them less of a penalty to Initiative if they're armoured) or give them a straight Initiative bonus (wargs).

The other advantage of using hammers (or maces) to knock enemies prone is that you won't get counterattacked if you're successful.

Funny thing is, that because maces and hammers are so slow, int penalty  that knocking them prone simply evens things out.

Bash... I thought I wasn't supposed to use maces due to they're rubbishness :)
