No Right Windows Key

Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 V2

Start 8 uses the right Windows key quite heavily, but my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 V2 doesn't have one.

Instead of a right Windows key, it has a Flip 3D key and it cannot be reassigned to act as a right Windows key.

So, this cripples Start8 quite considerably. I have also noticed that other keyboards don't have a right Windows key either.

Do you think it would have been best to use another key rather than have Start8 use a key that isn't on all keyboards?

Or can you at least provide an option to use another key in place of the right Windows key?

Thanks...

I am experiencing this problem as well.

My keyboard (Thinkpad x220 built in keyboard) does not have a right Windows key. Please provide another keyboard based method for launching the start screen (Win + Alt perhaps).

Apart from this issue, Start8 is great!

I have the same problem. I don't have a right Windows key. I want Shift+Windows key to show Windows 8 Start menu instead of right Windows key.

If feasible, sounds good to me as well, because neither do I have a right Windows key.

We plan to expand the options available for activating the Windows 8 start menu for v1.1

My logitech media Keyboard has on the right site instead windows key a context menu key.

The best idea would be a programmable key I think.

I have noticed with Start8 v1.03 that there now are options for keyboards that don't have a right Windows key under Control > Don't have a right windows key?, but the only option that works for me on my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 v2.0 is the Ctrl + Windows key. The other 2 options only open the Start8 menu.

Just thought I would mention it.

Those options should work fine for you.

Could you try an experiment and go to the configure tab and untick show user picture and then see if you still get the user picture on the start menu.  If so the update was not complete.

Also if so could you e-mail the file produced by running notepad %temp%\Start8 Setup Log.txt to support@stardock.com

Also again if the user picture remains, could you let me know if you were prompted to reboot after installing the update and if you have done so.

Neil, I unticked "Show user picture", and the picture remained. So, I reinstalled Start8, rebooted, then the picture would go when I unticked the option, but it was showing the wrong picture. It was showing a games icon (a Chess piece) at first, then it changed to a blank folder icon.

I rebooted again, and the user picture is now displaying the correct picture and the keyboard options are now working.
