Bypassing Metro on startup issue?

Bought Start 8 for the release version of Windows 8 Pro and everything works fine except for bypassing Metro on startup. Made sure the option was checked. Tried several times so far. Did MS manage to block this somehow?

Is this 32 or 64 bit and can you confirm you are using 1.0 vs any of the beta versions please. (see the about page in the Start8 config)

Also is your machine set to auto login, or are you manually logging in?

I'm having the same problem (boots to Win8 start instead of desktop).  64 bit and version 1.0 of Start8.  Manually logging in.

How fast would you consider the machines in question.  Do they have SSDs and quad processors, or just dual core with normal HD, or laptop with slow laptop HD?

It sounds like a timing issue impacting a couple of people so it would be helpful to know if things are probably happening quicker or slower than expected.

Also if you wait does it ever switch to the the desktop?

I assume if you manually switch to the desktop then the start button is in place ok?

The laptop is a Dell XPS 15 running an i5 processor clocked at 2.53 gHz. Hard drive is a standard drive running at 7200 rpm. I let it sit for awhile (more than 5 minutes) and it never switches to the desktop. The start button is there when I open the desktop manually.

Hello,

same here, just bough start8, fresh dovnload of version 1. System boots I log on, and I see Metro, not desktop, I have to click to desktop icon on metro page to go to desktop.

Win8 Pro x64

Manual login with password

everything else seems to be working correct

How long would you say it is taking your computer to show the metro screen from having entered your password and pressed enter / clicked the button?

new info...

when I reboot, logon, than I see Metro

when I logout, than logon back I see desktop

In first case it took about 10 seconds

In second case it took about 5 seconds

Thanks, thats useful information.  It sounds like Start8 expected things to have happened quicker.

I don't know if you have submitted a bug report to support@stardock.com or not, but if not it would be helpful if you did so we can see about you trying a test build early next week.  That goes for anyone else in this thread with this problem.

I found that when I set my PC to auto logon (see instructions here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/112919/how-to-make-your-windows-8-computer-logon-automatically/

that it boots directly into the desktop.

I can confirm as well that if I log out without restarting, that the desktop will come up once I log back in.

I have the same problems. Windows starts always with metro. I have to use the desktop app for the desktop. Here I found the start8 startmenu.

These problems beguns with the use of tiles. Meanwhile I have uninstall tiles but this doesn't help.
