Utilizing the Tarth racial ability

I really like the Tarth race and I like the idea behind their hit and run (guerrilla tactics) ability, but have never been able

to think of a way to use it.

So I came up with this and I am going to try it tonight; set up two high initiative and damage units led by a spellcaster. Hit an army, do as much damage as possible and cast the escape spell. I think this would work better if we had a henchmen/sion type unit available for Tarth to lead such guerrilla groups but anyway.

Has anyone else been playing with tactics to best use this ability?

Tarth has monster repellant and I will never play as it. Its the worst idea in the game. I just had to get that off my chest. Sorry for the derail.

I find the Tarth racial ability to be the most useless for troops, but at least it doesn't come with a -1 hp penalty per level.  I would probably go with a melee champ and two archers.  But it's still not good, and in reality, I would just ignore it.  But then, I never play as Tarth race.

Well joasoze you should not write off Tarth purely because the 3 and and less ability is almost useless. Their ability to settle towns is far ahead of anyone else and their ram longbows are amazing.

and yes I am not even sure if my idea will be effective, but hey if it is then it opens up a very unique playstyle I think.

I guess it would be useful to hear the vision and logic behind this ability. Is my idea on the right path or was it purely meant to give Tarth heroes a boost in the early game before proper armies?

Well, as a race goes, Tarth blows.  Their faction abilites are fine, they're bows and their scout ability is great, but you could create a custom faction with those abilities with a better race as a base.  Using "Men" as a base would get you henchmen and +10% exp bonus, and you could add the bows and scouting to them.

I really don't use the default nations.  And when I design my own, Amarians and Tarth are races I have never picked.

I think the idea would be that you would use fewer, more elite troops.

With Tarth I build troops that amplify the racial bonus (+attack and intiative.) This results in high initiative, high damage units pretty early in the game.

I assume that the game is balanced around the default races, so I don't really make custom races all that time.

Tarth is pretty mid-tier to me.  The only low tier faction is Resoln.

Resolin is easy to abuse.

Step 1: Turn shard into death

Step 2: Pump out troops

Step 3: Leveled troops conquer everything in sight.
