Broken Search Results

Small Bug In Search returns broken links to search results

I have found a small bug in the new beta.

When searching for control panel items for example "view network connections". It populates the list but when I click on "View network Connections"  it opens up the desktop folder in windows explorer rather than the network connections.  It is evident which links are broken, because they all have the "show desktop" icon vs. what it is actually supposed to be.

I've seen several examples of this when searching for control panel items.  Some of them populate fine, others do not.

Also the Administrative Tools option does not work properly.  It is simply a link to Administrative tools.  In windows 7 it was a pop out submenu.

We are looking at the possibility of this for a future release.

If you can do that, please provide the popup option for the Control Panel as well.

I think we reproduced this yesterday (after this build).  Hopefully will have it fixed in an update soon.

Also, there is a missing "fade & pop out effect" from the start menu (when using jump-lists, search and all programs) that was present in windows 7 but is missing from start8.  not sure if this was overlooked but it is minor.

overall everything seems to work great... I am very pleased with the product.

Just as a note, I noticed it costs $4.99 for start8.  That is more than affordable but there are free products out there (Classic Shell, ViStart, Startmenu7...etc.) that do essentially the same thing.  Will there be a free version available?

Also is it licensed per computer or per user? I.E. If I buy Start8 is it good on all of my machines or just one of my machines?

Wow, really?  Have you even tried those?  Sure, they're free, and yes, they give you a start menu, sort of, but have nowhere near the level of functionality that Start8 does.  Try one for a while and you'll quickly find that out.

ViStart is crap but Classic Shell provides far more functionality than what Start8 does and is an extremely intelligently done, well developed program. Only thing is that it targets the XP style Start Menu, does not try to clone the Windows 7 look. It is far more advanced than Start8. It was also the first to boot to desktop.
