[.95] I really don't like that only fortress towns get walls

Maybe it is just me, but I think it is stupid that only fortress towns get walls. It shouldn't matter what kind of town it is, you should be able to build walls. Maybe the walls could look different depending on what kind of town is and maybe the defenses could be different values but I can't stand seeing my other towns without walls :(

Any way to mod this>

For basic walls, I agree.  No matter how pacifistic your city is, in a world like Elemental, you're going to at least have some palisades up to try to ward off the darklings.  I do think, however, it's totally fair to limit all non-fortress cities to only the most basic walls, allowing fortresses to fulfill their role as being the bulwark of your military, both offensively and defensively.

I hope you don't mean basic walls as in hedge walls, I hate hedge walls. I see no reason why any city can't have stone walls, so i disagree. Your fortresses will still be the bulwark of your military as they are the only ones that can build all of those buildings which buff armies. Like more trained levels and bonuses to defense and accuracy etc. Every town should be able to have walls though.

Or they could do something like Conclaves get magic walls that do magic damage but don't give defense or something. Fortresses get walls that give extra defense and extra soldiers. Regular towns get walls that just give a small bonus to defense maybe but should still NOT be hedge only. Although honestly, I think they should just get rid of hedge and do wood -> stone.

I think that when your city reaches level 2, and if you chose the fortress type, then you should get walls for free right then and there.

Other towns and conclaves should still be able to build walls...you just have to queue them.

There also should be a spell to cast 'walls' on your city, imo....as well as 'firewall' and 'wind wall' and maybe even 'moat'. This way, each of the elements has some way of magically defending there cities. Each would have unique aspects:

Stone Wall: Prevents movement and blocks line of sight for ranged attacks expept at gates

Moat: Prevents movement expect at drawbridges. Does not prevent line of sight.

Wind Wall: Prevents line of sight for ranged attacks. Does not prevent movement.

Fire Wall: Doesn't prevent anything, but does damage X per unit passing through the wall.

As to having multiple walls at the same time? Maybe....

Just some thoughts...

Yeah a basic wooden wall should be available for any city.

Perhaps we need a special weak wall for towns and conclaves at level 3.

End of seanw3's quote

A useless wall (shouldnt require level!)
Just giving 1 defending unit or +1 to initiative for defending units, but be cheap and quick to build.

maybe a ditch or something.  I'd be ok, if a city of one specialization could get the lowest tier buildings from another, but only the upgrades for their own.

Don't fortresses get studies after all?
