Elemental: June 2012 Status

Elemental: June 2012 Status

Greetings! It’s been awhile since we’ve put up an update on where things stand.  So without further delay, here are some answers to questions we’ve received recently:

When will Beta 4 come out? The best I can say is “This Summer”.  It definitely won’t be out in June but might make it in time for July.

What will be in Beta 4? Beta 4 focuses a great deal on the civilization aspect of the game.  Specifically, the way cities are constructed. A third prime resource, essence, will be introduced (grain, materials, and now essence) which will help encourage greater specialization in cities. The graphics and user interface will also see a significant series of improvements for Beta 4 as well.

Will there be a Beta 5? Probably. Depends on how we’re feeling about Beta 4.

Will Fallen Enchantress require Steam? No.  We plan to make Fallen Enchantress available to purchase on Steam. But it won’t require Steam to play.

What is the status of multiplayer? It is our intention to add multiplayer after release but it won’t be available on day 0.

What is the status of modding? We would like to open up modding officially during the Beta 4 phase. No promises though.

Will there be more spells? Yes. We add more spells as we go along.

When will the final game be released? We don’t have a release date yet. But we are hoping sometime this Fall. We want to make sure we have all the time we need to make Elemental: Fallen Enchantress as good as we can make it.

I am kind of agree with Lord Xia,

Dragon look a bit "stupid" guard by the gate...

Suppose to be in a cave, probably  adding some large holes to enable us to see part of the dragon would be even cooler

I don't like how the third skeleton on the right is positioned... I expect you to fix this before release.

Opens picture with dragon... Zooms in a bit.... Is the dragon eating someones head??

That's just Waerloga standing beside him, it's a perspective thing. The dragon is just his mount, Waerloga is the one that's trapped.

Frogboy and all devs; thanks for acknowledging my post regarding the game still crashing regularly. Don't get me wrong, I love this game and am glad you are taking the time to finish it right. But look at it from my point of view, from WOM to all three betas of FE thus far, on three different machines, I have had the game crash regularly, like nine out of ten times (usually later in the game) when playing on the largest map with four or more opponents at all difficulty levels, although quicker when on the higher difficulty levels. Hopefully as soon as this Sunday I will have time to play again and will keep track of the turns and details and submit it to you. As for my machine and compatibility, none of the three machines I have had in the last three years have been odd. Currently I am playing on an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook with an i7 CPU quad core with 6 gigs of Ram. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Everything is updated. I have a friend playing the beta that sees crashes quite often too, and he doesn't use the terraforming magic alot like I do (which before I had asked him this fact, I had thought perhaps that was the reason). His machine is a newer Dell desktop. However he has not played the game nearly as much as I, and he always plays on a large map. Now if I play on a small or medium map with fewer opponents, the game appears to be much more stable now. I have only played betas 2 and 3 of FE on this HP, so if there are any know compatability issues, please let me know. Again, I am loving what you are doing with FE and applaud the continued effort, hope to see it finished and well received this Fall! I hope the several other bugs and suggestions I mentioned in my earlier posts were helpful as well. Thanks guys!

While that is most certainly the trend of technology, it's understandable that you have crashes. HP? i7CPU? Win 7 HOME ? Yeah.....not the winning side. Just the popular side cause it's cheap.

Um... there's nothing wrong with Win7 Home, nor is there anything wrong with an i7 CPU. The only real argument there is that it's an HP notebook, but even then, that's a terrible argument. It's like saying something along the lines of "Well, the xbox has inferior hardware to a ps2, so it's no wonder that the xbox version crashes all the time". No one would let you off the hook with that excuse, because the company that develops the game should have known that, and dealt with it. It's much harder on PCs, where there are thousands of different combinations of hardware, but that doesn't mean you can go around using the excuse that x brands suck. Even worse if it's a "trendy" brand, because you're expected to make those work even more.

My initial reaction on reading about essences was, 'oops, they want to add another imbalance to the game'.

The community has been making many posts in the Beta and Support forums about existing imbalances that need to be ironed out (including trade, economy, mana management, pioneers and overland magic).

Are you planning on implementing all features first and THEN addressing balance changes, Frogboy?

How are you and your team managing that data coming in from the beta testers?

Not 7.....Home.

I run win 7 home, have never had any problems with FE... well thats a lie, but I dont think I have extra problems... damn I hate when you guys FORCE me to play FE for hours and hours just to test if it crashes.... well thats the official excuse anyways xD

That said I miss my win 7 ultimate instead of home, I vaguely remember it running more awesomely on my PC upstairs. (But the laptop is more powerfull, so more fun to use, also allows me to lie down and play)

All is nice but right now I think the major gripes are:

* UI issues

* Performance

How many times my armies were standing for seasons because even with auto switching they were left behind? Why when entering battle game switches to another army? Wtere did the mine was destroyed? These may sound trivial but all that little things create the image of the game.

I run on a pretty old machine and 32 bit vista and haven't had a crash in several patches.  The only problems i've seen are the running man and other known issues.

Will those of us with a Steam account and who are eligible for a free copy of Fallen Enchantress be given the option to download the game via Steam instead of Impulse/GameStop?

You probably will receive a CD key somewhere on this page, or the page you can download the game from, and you can type in that CD key into steam to add the game to steam too.

Did this with a few of my CD'ed games. (Its called retail games?, anyways, the ones I bought in a store and got a box and stuff)
