Is auto-play and auto-resolve the same?

For testing it is good to know whether auto-play and auto-resolve lead to the same results. For clarity, before combat starts, you get the option 'auto-resolve', but you can also start combat and then 'auto-play' to watch the battle.

The queston is, does it give the same result? Is auto-resolve the same, but just without showing the graphics?

In theory, yes.  But Brad has commented before that currently they do not give the same results and need a bit of fixing in that department.  Unless there's a huge power disparity between you and what you're fighting (ie a level 7 warrior champ vs a couple mites), your safest option is to auto-play.  You can always intervene if the fight starts going poorly for you that way, as well.

I would imagine it is supposed to be, but it is currently not.

I can cite examples where my forces lost more hp and units with auto-play, whereas auto-resolve would have shown victory with no losses.  I would definitely say when in doubt, do it yourself or auto-resolve it.

Also, auto-resolve doesn't use mana, which is useful.

That makes sense.
