Permanent war?

Does the AI ever make peace? Every game I play, once the AI declares war (against me or the other AI) it seems to be war forever. And, if you have seen the AI make peace, is there a notification of it like the notification when factions go to war? Too many times a faction will be fighting a 4 front war which leads to their undoing.

I have never seen a notification of an AI making peace with another AI.
I have made peace with the AI multiple times. That said, I do not believe I have ever had the AI initiate a request for peace.
