Can not connect to ICO

Hey ladies and gents,

as the title implies, i can't connect to ICO. When I click the multiplayer button, I get to a second window that says "connect to ICO" but nothing happens for 5 or so minutes and then I get kicked back to the main menu.

I can play all other games without any problems, even though I am behind a college router.

Can't anyone help me with this?

On a side note, the forum could really use a better search function.

Edit:

a bit more information: I have the steam beta version of Rebellion, 0.9 and i recall being briefly connected once before, but never again afterwards. My rebellion.user file says I am connecting to ico2.stardock.com. A tracert there goes 11 jumps before timing out. I'm assuming that's when it hits the stardock internal netwok, but it keeps on tracing after that.

Pings to the same address report a 100% data loss, of course.

I'd be really happy if someone could help me!

The port used for ICO varies between different versions of the game; It's possible that the port being used is blocked on your network. You can check your user.setting file in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting and see what it is set to, and check with your network admins whether they allow it.

Hmm, there is no ironclad folder in my appdata. There is a user.setting file in my documents, though.

LastGameAddressConnectedTo ""
LastGameHostPortConnectedTo 6112
GameHostPort 6112
GameBroadcastPort 6000
EnableUPnPPortForwarding TRUE

this is the stuff that I got out of there about ports, which one do I need to open up?

Ah, sorry, forgot it has been moved there in a recent build. You're looking for the IcoServerPort line in that file.

Waitwhat, why does it work now?

Edit: I can connect now, but the player list remains empty and I can't join any games (I don't find any)

Edit2: I can now find games, but everything takes forever to send/connect or load. I literally type something in chat and it shows up 4 minutes later. My ping is 14k, apparently. It's fine with Half life two, league of legends and Super Monday night Combat, though.

Update:

When I was in IRC a few days ago, it worked fine, but now my ping is back to 3000 at a time where no one else in the dorm is awake. The net-tec staff said they didn't change anything whatsoever to the port settings yet, which means the port is still in it's original state.

This is way over my head.

Edit: now the ping jumps from 16 to 5K and back. What is happening ;_;
