Cannot update to Beta 3

I get the following message (which couldn't be copy-pasted incidentally, had to rewrite it all, very annoying):

Elemental: Fallen Enchantress could not be located on your system.
Re-install Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and then run this patch again.

Registry (Path=value):HKLM\Software\Stardock\Drengin.net\ElementalFE

Result (this is the installed location for FE per the registry):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\FallenEnchantress

Well I wouldn't want to re-install since I'd have to download again the full installer (very slow connection here, I'm not in the US) and I want to keep my games in my games folder anyway. Well, seems like I won't be trying Beta 3 this weekend after all.

Thanx for any help.

I've tried both allowing and disabling the antivirus.

Unfortunately the problem persists. Thanx for the attempt though!

Did you try saving the update instead of running it and then going to the directory where the .91 update was saved & running it from there?

That's worked a couple of times for me when the internet autoupdate has given me problems.

That happened to me too. The only thing I could do was uninstall and reinstall the game. I thought it was maybe because I'd originally installed the game in my F drive instead of the default C drive, so when I reinstalled it I just let it go into my C drive instead and it was fine.

I've tried even scifi1950's suggestion. Still nothing, but thanx again.

I hope the devs can help, I wouldn't want to have to download and install again..

Last bump fishing for a dev...

I had the exact same problem when trying to upgrade, it was because I had skipped one patch, and the version I was trying to upgrade was too old for the last patch (the previous patch has made some serious changes in the files structure and registry)

Luckily for me, even if I had not installed the previous patch, I had already downloaded it, so I first updated my version with it and then the beta 3 installed without problem.

At worst, just download the full beta again in order to have the latest version.

@Stardock: you should maybe implement a simple version check when running a patch so the user get an appropriate error message instead of the current one.

Messed up info on the game in the registry, at least as I see it.  Uninstall, then consider going through the registry (using regedit) and deleting any references to the game that might remain.  Of course, before you do any of this, be sure you establish a restore point.  Then re-download, and reinstall.

I know it's painful at slow speeds, but that would seem to be your sole recourse.

Do you know what version you had before?

I have 0,76 still, I skipped a few updates as I was waiting for Beta 3. This must be the problem then.

Well, ok, if it can't be helped, I'll install it again from scratch.

Thanx everyone.
