I've had this in both games I've started. At first three times with Tarth before I discarded that game, then in a second game with Relias. First contact goes fine, but when I actually attempt to talk to someone--crash.

I installed from the patch if that is the culprit.

I also have this issue; FE .90 and .91, crashes any time I try to enter diplomacy.  Never modded, install from patch.

The suggested fix of deleting C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - Fallen Enchantress\Screens as a directory worked, and diplomacy seems to be running properly now under limited testing.

Note: if you try the fix, be sure you don't accidentally delete the C:\program files\stardock games\fallenenchantress\screens directory.  Similar, but different.  I did that at first when I skimmed the directions, luckily had a backup that I made before deleting.

As FallingStar0280 sts above, this fix worked for me.  I would suggest using the search function with his path copied into it to avoid deleting the wrong file.  Prior to deleting this file, the Govern button was still in the upper left corner of my screen and the notification popups on the right side were not really working.  Once this file is deleted the govern button is now grouped with spells and turn at the bottom of the minimap.

Deleting "Screens" fixed the diplomacy window crashing for me. It also made Notices show properly, which had not been.
