Turn off auto arrange of icons within fence on Fences Pro

Turn off auto arrange of icons within fence on Fences Pro

Just upgraded to fences pro in order to have the ability to arrange icons within a fence.     It appeared on your fences page that this was one of the benefits of the getting the upgraded version.

However, it looks like there is no way to do this, and I am forced to use one of the default windows sort options inside the fence.   Is this correct?

Quoting from the product description on your product page:  "Sort icons in fences by date, type, size, name, times used, etc. " if you can;t sort by your own order (the etc. part of the sort), then the free functionality would have been fine for me.

Am I making a mistake in how I use the software, or am I out my $20?

Love the product (other than the sort)

Matt

I'm with all of you. +1 for having the option to disable auto arrange both in fences and on the desktop.

Please acknowledge the fact that users continue to request this and you continue to ignore us.

In Fence 2.12 I can

Right Click on the Fence in Question     and choose     Sort Fence BY     and Choose   NONE

and then drag the icons into any order I want them in and they stay that way

I thought it had been added when I renewed my subscription according to the post on v 2.12... but no all that's been done is to allow the shortcuts to not be sorted by any criteria "none". They still jump around like freaking jumping jacks and quite frankly a damned fence should be MORE functional than the desktop.

On the desktop I can put my icons where I want, and they stay there. I can put empty space where I want. What use is a fence if all it does is partition off space for AUTO-JUMPING icons. I could use a virtual desktop for free, and just put icons exactly where I want and cycle through the desktops.I could set up a handful of folders that contain Shortcuts, use a 5-10 line AutoHotkey Script to show/hide the folders, and I could view the damned shortcuts anyway that suited me at that point in time.

How is it that this has been a request for what 3+ years and still hasn't been implemented.

It looks like few if any of the Fence's suggestions ever get implemented. e.g. Regex-filtering rules. Detail view. Basic freaking things.

It's not like you even need to implement Regex, it's a free opensource library that can be added to pretty much ANY tool.

The requests for features for the various Object Desktop utilities remind me of Total Commander, "unfortunately... blah blah blah", or silence. At least I only had to pay for TC once.

CB.

I have a different problem that Stardock was unable to resolve.  I am curious if anyone else has seen it.  If I create a fence from icons located in a folder there is a good chance that the sort by name option will mis-sort an item or two.  Three of my ten fences display this problem.  If I create a folder portal from the same folder the fence does not display the problem.

Add me to the notification about turning off auto-arrange.

Being able to specify icon position is extremely important.

I place icons in specific positions of related items so I can quickly select what I need.  Having the icons re-arranged by something else really gets my OCD.

End of Peter0222's quote

Just a thought.....how many fences [plural] do you have?

I manage to have my icons where I want them by using 6 fences.  The idea of Fences is to group [corral] icons so they can be 'found' more easily [and be hidden at will]...;)

I believe this is the most insane situation I have ever come accross, all the more so in software that has to be paid for. How can this Fences program ever be of real use

- without the ability to turn off this so-called auto-arrange dictatorship?

- with a seller that refuses to listen to its customers for so long?

Ever had a domestic help who keeps mislaying your daily things?

You've got to be kidding.
