Why no Discount for Elemental owner?

My wife bought me E:WOM for Christmas 2010, but because of the negative hype, and I played other games first, I didn't install/register the game until 2011.  Whatever.  Anyway, I wanted to see my discount for FE and it says... $0!  Full price!  What is up with that?  When I installed/registered E:WOM it showed up and registered on Impulse.  I just re-installed Stardock Central and it shows ZERO of my old Stardock games there?  What's up with that?

Anyway, what's this E:WOM owner gotta do to get a discount for FE?

Are you sure you're using the same account? If you contact support@stardock.com, they should be able to help track it down. The new SDC only lists those titles that are currently available for direct download (latest release of each title, generally), but Elemental will at least be in there if it is on that account. You can check the full list of your registrations at the store site.

The lack of discount would have the same cause--no registration on the account you're logging in with.

I have a similar beef with Stardock.  I also bought my game in December 2010, but played for several months before registering.  I did get the $10 discount, but I had to put up with the WOM:Elemental nightmare just like all the other poor suckers who bought that mess.

If you didn't register than what do you expect?  Stardock to be psychic?

They could have gone the trouble to check serial numbers against shipping invoice dates.  They probably have all the necessary info in their database.  It is just a matter of writing code that crosses inter-department boundaries.

We don't do the manufacturing or shipping of product for retail (we're a software company--all that work is contracted out), nor do we have any way to know when a particular box was picked off a store shelf if it never gets registered.

I am willing to admit the possibility of a few weeks difference between the wholesale ship date and the retail purchase date; small loss compared to the magnitude of the error in quality of product.

I do have one related issue that I haven't seen an answer to:

It seems folks who bought GCII ultimate edition can get the games on Stardock Central/online download, but not the folks who bought the individual games.

I wish I could trade my regs for a GCII Ultimate.

Then again, if FE keeps getting better, I wouldn't be playing GCII again so it would be all moot.  ^_^

LOL you always crack me up Lord Xia the ever living!!!  I agree if you waited and did not register then it is not SD fault. This is what we call in the IT world "User Error" or  "ID10T error"  :)

The individual games may migrate over someday but we've made sure you can get the games you bought somehow (Impulse/Gamestop, Steam, our web site, or SDC).

I submit that when a bad product goes on the market, the company liability begins at the shipping date; not the date at which the product gets registered.  A product can have bad reviews which limit its marketability long before anyone has a chance to register their game.  IMHO, Stardock is doing one of two things, either: they are doing a pubilicity stunt with free FE, or they are attempting to limit their liability.  I am inclined to believe the latter.

The burden of proof is on you. Do you have a sales receipt or did you buy with a debit/credit card? If not, you may be lying. Everyone that ordered later could claim as much and get a free copy of FE. That is not fair to Stardock. Especially since WoM eventually became a competent game.

I'm not giving you guys too hard of a time because at least you did that, but I do wish you guys would at the very least, give us an offer to exchange out GC2 serials for an Ultimate serial.

I agree with everything you said except this " Especially since WoM eventually became a competent game."  I played the very last download of WOM and it was still pretty bad.

Played with the After the War mod it's not bad. Competent is a good word. Not great, but good for a few playthroughs.

Yes it's the same account on both SC and Impulse.  When I installed and played E:WOM the registration ended up only on Impulse.com, and not Stardock Central.  I can still logon to Impulse and see my serial # and everything for WOM... just not on Stardock.  As of today, I can see every Stardock game (and serial#) I've bought on both Impulse and Stardock Central... just not E:WOM.

Let me just ask point-blank... what exactly is the discount/price for FE for owners of WOM?  Whether I login to SC or not, I see that the pre-beta price is $39.95.  This leads me to believe I'm not getting a discount, and the full price is $40.  Maybe that's wrong... maybe the discounted price is $40?  I just don't know, but I'd like someone to confirm that for me before I raise any other complaints!

The discount depends on exactly when you registered it.  I know I'm getting it free, I got the deluxe edition on day one.  I don't remember where exactly the link is, sorry.  I believe 2010 means free, early 2011 means a discount...

If this is so, they'll need to correct the new previews that are being released, they say in those that if you buy WoM now you get a discount...

If you registered only on Impulse after it was bought by GameStop, then it was probably just never registered with us; the databases were split back last spring. If so, all you should need to do is re-register it here. That should happen on a fresh install of the game, but if not, contact support@stardock.com and they should be able to help.

Actually, I did contact Stardock, and they were kind enough to issue me a new code here on Stardock.  But I'm *exactly* where I was before.  Since this new code has been entered *today*... I got no discount!  That new code doesn't have a 2011 date on it, so I still don't have a code I can use to get a discount for FE.  I'm really no better off now than I was before, because Impulse did have my original code and WOM does work over there.

I'm still waiting to hear what this supposed discount is... maybe it's not worth fighting for.

Just wanted to update the forum to say... Stardock took care of everything!  They got my E:WOM and E:FE both registered with Stardock so there's no more problem!  As someone else mentioned above, I did install the game after Stardock moved stuff to Impulse.com, and I probably should have taken it upon myself to IMMEDIATELY re-register the game with Stardock even though it was registered with Impulse.... but it never dawned on me that there would be a problem later with FE, or that was something I would ever need to do.  But all is well now, thanks to the great guys at SD Central.
