[Bug] Odd behaviour from Advent Loyalist Automated Culture Spreading

So there I was, expanding merrily as can be as Advent Rebels, just grabbed a nice little moon in a pipe towards my nearest enemy.

At this point my Loyalist teammate mentions he's just gotten his automated culture spreading from planets he owned, and that's when I noticed this happening:

 

His culture was spreading from my moon, which was on the complete opposite side of the map from his territory, and was pushing all of my culture back, so I ended up having to choke it out with a starbase with evangelism nodes in an adjacent well.

I have absolutely no clue what caused this, I just came across the screenshot and remembered to make a thread about it.

Currently this culture is spread from all planets, if I recall correctly it even spreads from enemy ones. This is not working as intended, of course.

 

You do not need to push back his culture. Allied culture gives you the same benefits (Not entirley sure how it works with ship buffs, but at least planetary buffs work out the same) that your own culture gives. So you can use it while it lasts.

you sure you didn't get hit by a deliverence engine? that will make your planets spread his culture for a time.

Since forever, however I know this guy, he doesn't build deliverance engines, and it was way too early in the game anyway.

I'd be amazed if someone actually went for Deliverence Engines before auto culture spread.

Come to think of it I don't think this is the first time his loyalist culture has done this.

Actually, reading your post, I had no idea you guys were allies. I guess it would've been stupid of him to tell you he bought the tech if you were playing against each other... but maybe you guys were just fooling around?

But you could eliminate that possibility by asking your friend if he had a deliverence engine.

This culture spread does indeed happen on all planets. I made another thread about it spreading from planets I neutralized and then left to colonize later only to discover the passive culture was taking over the whole area.
