[0.86] Feedback & Suggestions: Diplomacy, Tell allies to not build city's near my outposts

Currently most outposts become pretty much useless to me, as any one of my current allies just plonks a city next to it. The allies new city boarder over runs its area of effect. So i have to city spam or go to war with everyone.

A possible solution may be to have an option in diplomacy to tell allies to not build cities within X number of tiles of my outpost or they will regret it.

Allowing closed borders would also be great. Now I've tried building long lines of outpost for closing my borders.  But this is really hard to do on even medium maps. And before you know it, an pioneer breaks through and you need to declare war to remove the new enemy settlement in my newly conquered wildland/critterland.

Fb just said he was considering sending a unit back to the capital when kicked out of territory. That would make the pain of territory control much better. I am assuming the AI will be smart enough to not try it as often either, given the penalty.

I would agree that outposts should stop just building cities abit more, and meaby city borders too (if the city is placed AFTER the outpost).

But I think this should be considered when we know what kind of cities and outposts we want to keep. Cause right now outposts are just spammable silly wooden structures that allow you to grab resources, they seem abit dull to me to be honest.

But at some point, I  hope there is a way besides cities and wars to have the AI keep a little distance.

Given ofcourse that you are rather small compared to them, and they have space etc.

Perhaps eventually, outposts will have improvements of their own. (Maybe they could level, too? You could improve your outpost into, say, a Fortress, or a Trade Hub, etc) -- I personally think that this would be really sweet and add further customization. Think: Starbases from SoaSE.

One such potiential outpost improvement could be one that prevented cities from being constructed within a certain radius. Or, as that may be too powerful, an improvement that strengthened/expanded your boarders extended by the outpost.
