Flagship Feedback

Opinion: The flagship victory is a great idea. However I think that when the Titan is built the players flagship should switch to the Titan.

The Titan should be the flagship. It is the biggest most powerful ship. It should be the pride of your empire (i.e. its flagship). This will make users think carefully before committing it to battle. People will have to use it wisely. If the player loses their Titan they lose the game. The capital ship that used to be the flagship should revert back to a regular capital ship with regular ship abilities. The Titan's abilities should not change or be made similar to the 1st flagships abilities.

In game this can be explained to the player by stating that the some of the first flagships systems were salvaged to make parts for the new Titan flagship.

Another option on how to do this would be that you could upgrade your flagship into the Titan. Your first flagship could drive into the Titan factory and be dismantled and replace with the Titan (like an upgrade). This way the player can actually see this happen. The Titan would obviously have completely different abilities than the original flagship.

It is a great idea, but there are two Titans that this would not work for. Currently, the Vasari Rebel's Titan (VRT) is the weakest. The thing can barely half clean a pirate base because it is so weak (but what can you expect from a dandelion seed?). The second Titan that this would not work for is the Advent Rebel's Titan (ART). I would explain how this would hinder the ART's effectiveness, but I fear of getting in trouble for describing abilities, but nonetheless, if you lose the game when losing your titan, it would somewhat put a damper on the ART.

Don't like it. That would make killing your flagship too hard (since it's now the titan) and give the factions with defensive titans a huge edge.

I DO think flagships should be boosted though - if they were given some fleet affecting effects, it would make sense to use them on the front lines all game.

Agree with Toivoton. The flagship is meant to be like a king on the chess board. The Titan is more like the queen.

Shouldn't it be like a king on a chess board though? It is the most expensive piece on the board. The most valuable the one that hurts the most to lose i.e. a king.

I feel like if your Titan is weak you would just use it with support ships. Take our flagship the USS Enterprise in the US NAVY. It doesn't go anywhere without a huge armada protecting it. The Enterprise is extremely weak defensively but man it can pack a punch. I don't see how this would be a huge deal. You would just have to plan your strategy accordingly.

What about perhaps just disabling titans in flagship victory setting?  It would give appeasement to any players who are worried or have reservations about the strategic importance of titans, would give the flagship game-mode a bit of a nostalgic classic-sins feel, and frankly the exclusion of titans from a single game move shouldn't be too much of a hit to one of the expansion's shiny new features.

Or better yet, give hosts the option to allow titans, but have the default setting be titans disabled for flagship victory.

Honestly either way I think flagship victory setting will be more interesting without the presence of titans.  If the flagship switches to the titan, everyone will have even more incentive to rush a titan.  If titans are disabled it adds the additional choice component where the player has 6 choices of which ship to use as a flagship.

Also it's worth noting that titans with the flagship additional abilities might be too strong.

This is a great idea. You should only be able to choose a flag ship once though. Perhaps you have to choose a flagship within a certain time period after you build your first capital ship.

No, the King is not the most valuable piece, nor the one that hurts the most to lose, the King is barely a piece at all, it's an objective, it has no practical tactical use (except for that nifty trick of swapping him with his Rook to reposition that Rook freely.)

The piece that most players start lamenting losing is the Queen, their most powerful and versitile piece.

Flagships are Kings, Titans are Queens.
