Windows 7 64 bits and FE will it work?

I just got a new pc. Actually is a use pc but it's new to me.

It's a core 2 duo and I have windows7 64 bit installed.

I've been seeing on this board a few  posts mentioning that having such an OS would be better. Will this game take advantage of the 64 bit os or not? Will we need to get another version of the game or is it installed by default to take advantage of the 64 bit system.

I do not know much about this stuff but I am curious.

Thanks

vanilla works just fine. no idea if the game is 64 bit or not or if it uses more than 3 gig ram or whatever it is.

someone else can tell you that

I run Windows 7 Home 64 bit.  Runs fine.  Occasional crash, but it is a beta.

You can't ALT-TAB out of the game consistently without it crashing, but other than that it runs pretty well on my Windows 7 64-bit 16GB system.

Strangely enough, if you Ctrl-esc first, then alt-tab, it seems to work without issue.

And yes, works fine here in win7-64

Hi Solam,

Unfortunately, on my Intel I7 64bit system with 6 Gigs and running Win 7, the game (Beta 0.86) is not very stable and crashes frequently.  This seems to occur at or around the 70th season (turn).  I've tried numerous game and OS option combinations without effect.

I have submitted numerous error reports, so maybe it will get better soon.  For the time being, the game crashes so frequently and so early in the game that I can't say it's much fun to play.  Your results may vary.  I'll keep up with the beta's and hope the situation improves soon.

I'm pretty sure frogboy has said that the game will make use of more memory on 64 bit systems.

I run the beta on 64bit Win 7 and the game runs fine.  Game crashes occasionally, but not more than you'd expect from a beta.  Not problems alt-tabbing, though I run a dual monitor system with the game on one screen.

Ditto.  The extra RAM is great for games that can grow in complexity over time, like FE.

Yes he did and it does.

Running Windows 7 64 bit with a dual core, runs smoothly just had 2 crashes in .86 so far, both when trying to save a unit design but not really reproducable. Internel intel graphics card from the sandy bridge processors, those things have come a long way and are very decent now. 8GB RAM :-D

I also have Win 7 64 Home, quad core, 8G memory, ATI Radeon HD 5870, and aside from a very few crashes (a lot fewer than in the EWoM beta), it's running fine.  No alt-tab problems for me, although they've been very common in Stardock games in the past.

Thank you all for the update. Mucha appreciated.

Apparently FE is 64-bit aware (at least for Win7).  This means, as a process, it can use up to 4GB of RAM, whereas 32-bit systems (and all Windows XP systems, even 64-bit) can only use 2 GB max for any process, or maybe a bit more if you play around with some technical settings.

Yeah, I have a windows 7 64 bit.  Use to run fine, the occasional crash.  Till a day ago when it would crash every time I made it to the 7 turn...no matter the size of the map or what I was doing.  Then I tried uninstalling it.  Gave me a "ERROR: no $tring found".  So, deleted it peice by peice.  Tried to install again....keeps prompting me to uninstall and giving me the error message.  So, now instead of playing the game, I'm stuck complaining on the forums until someone has an idea of what to do.  Submitted a ticket but no response.  Want to ram my head into the monitor.  Other than that, I really love the game.

Get the base version of Revo Uninstall, and hopefully that will be able to find and remove registry entries associated with the game.  This should almost definitely work if you still have an FE install entry in Add/Remove Programs.  I'm not sure if it can remove registry entries if the game has been uninstalled according to Add/Remove Programs, but it might.
