Sins +Steamworks? How will it affect multiplayer?

I've been reading that the plan for Rebellion is to integrate the online multiplayer with Steamworks.  I know almost nothing about Steamworks.  How will it affect online multiplayer?  Will it increase lag and instability?  Would it be possible to run Rebellion on one CPU core and Steamworks on another core?

Steamworks is more reliable than ICO at its current state. That's all I can say and that you will get these odd achievements and ablity to invite friends through Steam. CPU core usage is a question mark here. Can't say for certain about that. Depends on how the made the game to do what.

Any details about the Steam situation would be greatly appreciated. They should really do a Dev journal on what they're plans are and what it will mean for multiplayer, modding and DRM.

Some info is in Gamespy article regarding modding:

Because of Sins' rich modding community, Fraser says Ironclad is definitely interested in getting Steam Workshop set up, though there are certain technical hurdles that might prevent it from happening, so he wasn't able to make any promises during this demo.

Yarlen just answered the Steam situation here, and many people who don't want to be forced to use Steam will never play Rebellion because of it.

Steamworks is also used by other games for automatching MP games as part of a ladder with elo rankings, etc. I'm curious if Rebellion will use this. It makes no sense for ICO to have ever added that as it's hard enough to find custom games set up to join. If the playerbase becomes large enough, it would be a nice feature though. Other games usually have 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 modes, etc. where steamworks matches you with another team searching. I'm sure this could be set up for Sins as well.

Steamworks works by working the workers at Valve to enhance their workability.  Thus, they overwork their overclocked processors to work with maximum ineffectiveness to maximize the factor of drunken forum posting.
