Windowblinds not fully installing

I have downloaded Windowblinds 7 and am having trouble installing it on Windows 7 x64, it almost gets right through the install but right at the end it skips the file xpui.uis, and thus Windowblinds doesn't seem to run correctly.  Any ideas on how to install Windowblinds and get this particular file to install to finish the install.

MSstyles installed?

nope MSstyles isn't installed, CursorFX and Iconpackager have installed fine it's just Windowblinds is having the problem.  I have tried installing in safe mode, with and without virus checker enabled but it just won't install properly.

I think skipping xpui.uis might be normal given you are on Windows 7.

Is the installer indicating there is a problem, or does that finish ok?

If it does think it installed ok then it might be useful to provide us more information on exactly what is not working right.

If you can get to it, click the 'About WindowBlinds' button at the top, then the 'Copy to clipboard' button, then paste it here so we can see what it says.

In the about Windowblinds it says it installed ok, but as soon as I try to apply any skin it won't apply the skin instead just pops up an error message saying that Windowblinds isn't intalled correctly on this machine.  Don't know if it's a Windows 7 x64 incompatibility or a corrupt download of Windowblinds itself.  Also when I set Windowblinds to minimize to the system tray instead of the task bar it won't, it continually minimizes to the task bar and I can't unload Windowblinds.

Is the installation actually completing - what is the last thing you see when installing?

As it's installing a box comes up that shows what files are being installed, the last file that it gets to is xpui.uic and the box seems to flicker like the install is having trouble with the file. Then it says to reboot to finish the install which I do. Once Windows has finished loading, I start up Windowblinds and check under "About Windowblinds" it says that the install is finished and installed properly.  It's when I actually go to load up any skin that it's having trouble, it seems like it only installs half the skin.  If I then try to load another skin that's when it comes up and says that Windowblinds isn't installed properly.  Also if I set it so that it's to minimize to the system tray instead of the task bar it doesn't, it will always minimize to the task bar.

Well it sounds like it's finishing, and not what I thought it might be.  You should probably do this so some other folks can work with it:

ok this is what I get using "about Windowblinds"

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 5.9 Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 7.4

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.4 (320 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC WindowBlinds has not been activated correctly on this PC.  Please activate it again. (Generic PnP Monitor) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

Wblind.dll      2012/04/11 12:31:ll Wblind64.dll      2012/04/11 12:31:05 Wbsrv.dll      2011/09/26 15:10:56 SevenConfig.exe      2012/04/10 18:38:58 Wbload.exe      2010/10/20 16:08:35 Wbhelp.dll      2011/10/04 10:01:37 Tray.dll           2009/10/23 20:12:19 Wbload.dll           2010/06/07 15:59:25 Screen.exe      2010/06/07 15:59:43

I know it's not activated, but if I activate it then apply a skin it seems to only partially apply the skin, and then if I try to change the skin it then tells me that WindowBlinds isn't installed correctly.  I set windowBlinds to minimize to the system tray but it won't it always minimizes to the task bar, so then WindowBlinds is loaded and I can't unload WindowBlinds to uninstall it so I end up with half skinned pprograms that look all out of kilter.  I will try to load WindowBlinds up and then post the resulting message I get from that.

This is the link to the error message once I try to change the skin. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii19/nugar1/WindowBlindserror.png  This happens the first and susequent times when changing skins, and it's getting darned annoying.

Is there any way to install WindowBlinds to any other folder besides Program Files, say for arguments sake to a windowBlinds folder in the root directory fo C:

Sort of fixed it, it seems that if I install WindowBlinds directly to C:\Windowblinds instead of to the default directory it works.  Don't know why it doesn't work if it is installed into Program files, if anyone has any thoughts on why that happens I would be greatful to find out.

It sounds like you might have some general permissions issues going on.  Either that, or possibly security software is getting in the way and blocking part of the installation.

Definitely not security software as I installed WindowBlinds into Program Files before with neither AntiVirus or Firewall enabled, even tried it in safe mode where it's only basic drivers loading with the same effect.  It's only since this last install where I installed into C:\WindowBlinds and not into Program files that it worked.  So I guess it's more to do with permissions than anything, and as I don't know enough about changing permssions for Program files I decided to leave it in the directory that it's in now, seeing as it's working.  I read something in another forum that some softwares do have trouble when installing into Program Files especially with x64 Windows so I guess this is just one of those times that this issue occurs.  But thanks all the same for the help and suggestions.
