0.78, 0.79, 0.80 Speculation

I have been trying to sort out how we got from .77 to .80 (see Frogboys posts today).     Here is my best guess:

.78 was the version that we would have received last Thursday.   It would have been fun and balanced but Frogboy wanted us to anticipte FE perfection longer so he delayed the beta release to next Thursday and made more changes.

.79 would have had the ponies that Lord Xia has been requesting incorporated as another resource.  You could not use them for fighting but the town's morale goes up as the kids are happier.   Frogboy did not know about this additon until this morning.

.80 is just like .79 but with the ponies removed since Frogboy has a long term plot to keep ponies out of FE.

Everyone else is free to speculate what these three beta numbers mean to them............

I would speculate that there are so many fixes and advancements being made, it would be a delay to make another public beta. Since they already know what needs to be worked on, we are not needed.

Case in point: They are talking about delaying the beta another week. I say take your time. Fewer, more meaningful beta rotations is ideal.

I'm looking forward to the mage troops that give a counter to archers.  Once upon a time they were trying to work it so people could focus on One tree (instead of all three equally) which right now I'm not feeling it.

I want my motha fuckin ponies!

That is not how Derek Paxton is doing it. Specialization, in his Elemental, starts with resources. Getting an edge is all about combining techs with available resources. In this game it seems to be which techs we choose first as opposed to choosing a tree right away. The midgame allows for tech specialization, but this part of the game has some other problems that prevent us from enjoying that. This is why i would like to wait until the beta has fixed everything that was a problem in .77. I want to start a critique of the midgame.

I think the numbers are just indications of how close they think the game is to release. I highly doubt that .77 was exactly the 77th build of the game and they planned exactly 23 more to release.

They said it is a general estimate, but there will be a point when we are getting .99az so there is no limit based on the number. The last one percent takes the longest.

This is definitely the reason, imho.

Yes.  I retracted my request to have details or a patch released.  It will be great when the patch is ready if there are very big improvements!

So, except for Lord Xia, this humorous thread lhas had responses that are all serious.     What does that say about the sense of humor of EF beta testers?

.78 they included ninjas

.79 they included pirates

.80 upon realising the game was so awesome that several of the staff had actually passed out through sheer excitement they removed the pirates and ninjas and replaced them with radishes. Currently they are debating whether salad vegetables actually have any place in this game.

We can't help it, we're geeks. The same way that if you run from a lion, it is instinctively compelled to chase you...when geeks see flaws in facts or a comment, joking or not, geeks are compelled to argue unimportant shit over the internet.  Probably in real life too, but there are so few geek to human interactions, studies are difficult to do.

I disagree with the above. Since geeks are outliers, most geek communication must be geek to human simply by regression to the mean.

Maybe, but I do appreciate you proving my main point.

Pirates?   What a cool idea.   They sail along the river or the coast line and loot cities....

A new Heavenfall mod for FE?

LOL when did that become a thing? Make it yourself!

Well, they'll have to *walk* along the coast of course.

Not if the mod includes ships...............

I would guess that .79 was an experiment with ships. They removed them because it was soon realized that Trogs cannot swim.  :D

Indeed, the game severely needs pirates - and zombies, robots and ninjae. These are the scientifically proven components of every successful game.

Oh, there will be Zombies in Expanded Factions I think.

There will be ninjas in Goetia:DotP.

The lack of dinosaurs in your comment is appalling. Absolutely appalling.

What about time travel, nuclear explosions, and steam punk? These, too, are in short supply and must be in the next patch!
