[suggestion] Make high level heroes harder to kill

I find it annoying how easy it is to kill high level neutral heroes. This mechanic means that these awesome heroes tend to never actually get used in the game because it's very easy to kill them before anyone can get the tech needed to recruit them. It also means that some really awesome loot is available too easily. One option would be to simply make them unkillable but I kinda like the option to possibly kill them but I think a better solution would be to give them some support. This is just some idea off the top of my head.

 

Level 1 : No support you have to rush to find these guys

Level 2: Small army. Exploration tech isn't too hard. You need to hurry if you want to get them though.

Level 3: Medium army + Guardian Statue. These guys should last a while.

Level 4: Medium Large army + Guardian Statue + All unit buff cast at battle start. These guys need to last well into mid game for getting the level 4 tech as literacy is a prereq.

Level 5: Huge army + Guradian Statue + All unit buff at battle start + Damage spell cast on you every turn. You generally don't want to mess with these guys. They have a real following and they should be sticking around well into the late game.

I made a similar suggestion back a bit. It'd be very cool, but more importantly 1) it would help high level heroes survive until you can recruit them and 2) you could up the cost of hiring such a party.

How about you can only hire the hero, and when the hero comes to work for someone the army gets released to go rampaging or just disapears.

Getting the dying heroes problem solved seems like a big issue to me...

While I like the army idea High Lv heroes are also weaker than they should be. Before they were Lv's 1/2/3/4/5 and now 1/3/5/7/9 but retain only

 1/2/3/4/5 talents.

Fix this and see if that helps

I notice the tile a neutral hero is on has an image of a castle. Maybe this is logic enough to think that castle would give the hero bonuses to make the hero more difficult to kill? It would make sense to have killing heroes be a bigger challenge so they can't just get wiped out.

As Stupidity10 said they might want  to look into making them worth recruiting first.  If they actually had the stats/abilities/traits of their alleged levels they would die far less frequently. Giving the Path of the Mage heroes a hidden "Node Fragment" artefact that grants mana = 5*Magic traits at start of combat (make them loose it when hired) would allow them to cast some spells instead of running up to mobs & poking them with a stick.

In any case... If they have been surviving in the wild they ought to have some way of.. Well... Surviving in the wild. Either strong enough to resist most bands of creatures or men that would want to kill them or stealthy enough to avoid them. I mean it doesn't make sense that they would survive the cataclysm and the decades of chaos that followed and then get killed before a couple years had gone by...
