How to Patrol?

So I was kiting my light carriers around a gravity well in a AI game, and I came upon a question. I know how to setup way points, but is there a way to set up a patrol route using waypoints? It would be helpful if I could set it up and then go back and do other things while I'm waiting for them to finish their dirty work.

edit: spelling

I don't think so, not really. The closest you could probably get would be to have one durable unit move around the patrol route you want, and to then give the "patrolling" units you have an order to "move" to the primary unit. Those following may move around the gravity well and attack enemy units around, but will immediately follow the leading unit when it starts to warp out. Another problem is that the leading unit may well be targeted first by whatever enemy ships are around and will die first, so keeping a patrol route up could be quite hard without the first unit dying.

The best option would simply be to be able to survey the galaxy and give orders to your units when you see enemy ships around.

Oh I wasn't talking about on a galactic scale, but on a gravity well scale. For example, I just warped in 10 LC to a enemy gravity well and want them to move along the edges of it as the bombers go off and do their work, and to keep them out of range of enemy starbases/turrets. Hope that is clearer.

You just have to do a 'shift' move, takes about a minute to set up. just click every corner of the gravity well in a cycle numerious times. they may ad something for rebellion, but for now it's just manual

How about if they allowed us to use the scout ability on any ship we wanted? Including capitals?

How hard would that be?
