WindowBlinds application compatibility issues

WindowBlinds application compatibility issues

It has come to our attention that some people may have had issues with some apps and WB and opted not to tell anyone about it.

Obviously we would like to know about them so we can resolve the issues.

If you have had an issue with an app caused by being skinned by WB, please post the following information in this thread:

1) The app name

2) The OS you are using

3) The theme you are using

4) The problem you have encountered

5) If you did report it to support a ticket number would help.

If the issue is visual a screenshot would help and where the app is more unusual we would like to know where we may be able to obtain a trial or demo version of it from.

Please note that we are not looking for bug reports on making skins here.  This is specifically for application issues.

1. Just for the heck of it, please run sfc /scannow as Administrator (start menu>type in cmd>right click 'run as Admin'). I doubt this will solve the problem, but it would be good to check the integrity of your system files and fix any problems if they exist.

2. When you're running a game, why would you need Windowblinds to be running? One solution would be to exit Windowblinds before playing the game... Windowblids doesn't skin the game, anyway.

3. Perhaps this software competes or interferes with Windowblinds and its ties to uxtheme.dll ?

4. The person at Stardock who would investigate this would be Neil Banfield... and he's seen this thread. Logitech should also be made aware... Stardock and Logitech need to solve this together, it would seem. Their Support Community Forum doesn't seem to have any posts on this topic.

it just seems that everything but win7 itself is having these issues :(  I was trying to search these apps out using the search function, but everything leads to video game sites, which I made a post on and was referred here for my skinning problems.

p.s.  I'm in LOVE with windowblinds! I think it's SO cool!! :)  don't want to sound whiny... just really want it all to work perfect is all :)  and btw, my favorite skin of all so far is win8metro. it just happens to match my rainmeter  (APB theme btw)

@Michelle911  FF and Chrome won't get skinned by WB's nor will Yahoo Messenger. They have their own set of skinning rules. Some apps can be excluded from skinning in WB config/Settings/Per Application if they don't display properly. The 3 I mentioned though, you do not want to exclude.

Last I heard anyway, Firefox wouldn't skin. I'm using IE9 on Win7, IE8 and Chrome on XP . You might want to read THIS thread about FF issues, btw.

P.S.  Did you know that WinCustomize has a Rainmeter Gallery? :)

I was unsure about firefox, I've both read that it does and doesn't work, mine is working, but like I say, every now and then it reverts back to ugliness...  at first it kept happening over and over, but now not so much... wish I could figure out if maybe it's something I'm doing or just out of my control.  it definitely *wants* to be skinned, it will play along for some time, totally unlike yahoo messenger which just refuses.

didn't know that about windowblinds and rainmeter! so cool :)  ty  I'll go take a look right now!

My download of WB isn't working and i was wondering if there's something i can do about it

I've noticed something, unfortunately is not repeatable  :-| but the only times this seems to happen is when 7zip is opened by way of an archive or if I open my yahoo mail in Firefox from my new mail indicator in my system tray (which is a feature of yahoo messenger).

I have been having the same problem of Windowblinds crashing for no apparent reason and reverting to standard Windows 7 theme.  Sometimes it happens right after booting up after Windowblinds has installed and sometimes it will occur while I am internet surfing on Firefox or reading an email in MS Office 2010.  It doesn't seem to matter which application I am using for the Windowblinds crash to occur.  I love Windowblinds and have been using this program for many years and do not want uninstalling it to be the the solution to this problem.  It would seem that there is some compatibility issue related to my problem, but I cannot begin to know the origin of the issue since the timing of the crash incidents seems to be random.  PLEASE HELP.

I think you will find that anything launched or opened by Yahoo Messenger will be skinned in classic. Open IE from a link within YM or click on the attachment paperclip, you'll see what I mean. :puke:   BTW, it doesn't do that in XP. ;)

Hello.

1.- Logitech Gaming Software v.8.40.83 for G510 and G13

2.- Windows 7 x64

3.- Any

4.- The Logitech Gaming Software software does not start if loaded and running WindowBlinds.

WindowBlinds closing and starting Windows, the Logitech Gaming Software driver works correctly

1) Logitech Gaming Software 8.45.88

2) Windows 7 Home Premium x64

3) Occurs on all themes (Galaxas7 & Breeze for 7)

4) Logitech Gaming software will not start/run while WindowBlinds is running.

Is there a "fix" or a workaround for this yet? I just picked up WB recently and I'm currently not able to use it for the one reason I bought it.

Hi people i believe i have truly found the solution to the problem with Logitech Gaming Software, i was messing around with the options in LGS itself and managed to get it to work with Windowblinds 7/8? (Confirmed to work with 8 for me).

What i did was went into the general options for Logitech Gaming Software by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom right, then under general i looked down to the Graphics section and unchecked "Enable Enhanced Graphics" (without quotes), then restarted LGS like it asked me to. Once it restarted i realized that it was working with the skins from window blinds again so i double checked by reapplying the window blinds skin and it still worked.

I hope this helps anybody having the problem with Logitech Gaming Software, Not Working/Not Displaying properly, give it a shot and see if it fixes it good luck.

Hi!

Just noticed that the window title bar of Adobe Reader XI under Windows 8 is displayed using the regular Windows 8 style, regardless of the theme which is selected in WindowBlinds.

Thanks!

Adobe products run in a sandbox and cannot be skinned.  So ugly.  :(

1) Microsoft PowerPoint 2007

2) Windows 8 64 bit

3) Any theme

4) See below

5) n/a

Whenever I am using any skin with Window Blinds 8 running on my Windows 8 PC it distorts the look-and-feel of my Microsoft PowerPoint application.

There are 2 major issues and 1 minor issue.

    1. The tabs at the top of the GUI are missing (they are not actually missing just invisible until I click them then all others become invisible).

    2. There is a huge dead area starting from about the middle of the GUI down to the bottom.

    3. The tab text (Home shown in the image below) is distorted/fuzzy.  (minor)

I use Power Point all the time so I have to constantly unload Window Blinds or use the default theme. I am a bit disappointed because I really like Window Blinds and I don't want to have to uninstall it or just use the default theme (which defeats the purpose of even using it).

Below you will find images to demonstrate the issue.

Here is what it looks like with any theme applied:

MS PowerPoint 2007 - Window Blinds 8

And here is what it should look like:

MS PowerPoint 2007 - Window Blinds 8 - No Theme

I have tried re-sizing the dead space (but I can't), maximizing PowerPoint, restarting, etc. but nothing fixes the issue.

Note that other applications in the Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, Publisher, etc. are not affected.

Never noticed this thread.  In that case,

Windows 8 Enterprise x64

Any theme

1.  Pretty much all recent Microsoft apps.  Office 2013 doesn't skin at all with the "title bar" and ribbon being wrapped in a NetUIHWND class window i.e. not following normal windowing schemes.

2.  WebMatrix3 configurator's titlebar is completely translucent except for the text and app icon.  The normal window management icons are translucent as well.  The entire window is wrapped in a HwndWrapper class window.  If this program weren't in the style of a growing Microsoft trend, I would say who really cares.  Compatibility option "Enable this to prevent the application using glass" resolves the translucency but results in the titlebar not being skinned with the window controls being stretched vertically like a carnival funhouse mirror to fit whatever size the skin requires.  Setting this application to ignore skinning altogether is no different from the prevent the application using glass option.  Theme irrelevant.

WebMatrix3

Application Ignored:

3.  Trillian's "title bar" is completely translucent as well.  As you can see below, every part of the window background above the bluish gradient is missing.  This one's class is icoTrilly but quite frankly I could care less about this program skinning correctly either.  Compatibility option "Enable this to prevent the application using glass" resolves the issue prevents the translucent title bar.  Unless all of the following options are enabled, the process will crash upon trying to exit:

"Ignore this application and do not skin it"

"Disable background bitmaps and for this app"

"Disable scrollbars for this app"

"Disable titlebar skinning for this app"

I'm at a loss as to why the total exclusion feature alone isn't enough to prevent the crash yet this crash is 100% consistent without all the listed options checked none-the-less.  The translucency shows up in BREEZE FOR 7 although any custom theme will crash the process either on start or exit.

Trillian

As a disclaimer, I didn't post these originally out of sheer apathy, not laziness.  That makes it ok, right? ;)

1. Nero CoverDesigner 15.0.5000

2. Windows 8.0 Pro x64 build 9200

3. Any

4. The app doesn't work properly, graphic smears out.

When putting the exe in exclusion list, it works fine.

5. No ticket number yet.

Got another one.  Same issue with my post above with the translucent titlebars and such but this one for Tor Browser and instead of the taskbars, its the area that holds the empty tab space and such which I thought was somewhat odd since it, in effect, is just a stripped down Firefox.  Screenshot just looks the same as Trillian does but if you truly need them, I can get them.  This one has nothing to do with the any selected Theme and disabling theming the window is the only compatibility option that works with some cause even stranger issues.

Thanks,

Matt

Additional Edit:

Here's a PuTTY problem which out of anything would be my personal pick for a fix.

That thing on the right hand side is supposed to be the scrollbar except trying to manage it with the mouse makes window focus fall through to the background window as if it weren't even there.  It still functions, however, and scrolling up and down lets you see the little block moving up and down as well but it has to be done with the mousewheel.  Theme is irrelevant again.  Only fix right now is to disable themeing it in compatibility.  Not a single one of the other icons had any effect at all unfortunately.  I use this constantly and while the others programs I've reported have issues, they are barely noticeable in comparison to a the typical plain, bland PuTTY window in the middle of a pretty screen.
