Updating Software

Since Stardock "undocked" with ImpulseNow, I am in a quandary.  A one year sub is supposed to include updates.  My question is very simple, but for some reason, Stardock does not seem to want to answer it.  Instead, I am bounced back and forth between them and Game Stop and never getting my question answered.  But they seem to like to close tickets unanswered.  So I thought I would ask here to see if I can get anywhere.

Without Impulse Now, HOW do I receive updates for WindowBlinds, Icon Packager, etc.?  I cannot find any button to click in either of them to search for updates.  Wait, LogonStudio does, but that simply closes the program after sitting there for a few minutes, but does nothing.  So, can anybody answer this for me?

It's doubtful that I will renew my subscription again because of the lack of support I have received.  It should be a simple question, really.  It's not like I'm asking for access to code or anything.  But it is what it is, and, quite frankly, I am at wits end.  Please, If you don't know, don't flame me with silly comments.  I am serious about this.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Presently all current releases and betas can be downloaded from your account page at  https://store.stardock.com/myaccount

You'll just have to compare version numbers for now.

A new update client is in the works.

Why so cryptic???  I'm not looking for full downloads, I am looking for updates?  HOW DO I GET UPDATES FOR THE PROGRAMS I HAVE PAID FOR????

Cryptic, they just explained how you would currently go about checking to see if there are any updates for programs that you have paid for.  Go to the store link shown in reply #1 and sign in.  You should see all the your progams.  If you don't, fire off an email to support@stardock.com and they will be able to straighten it out.    :sun:

So was Hankers and I. What was cryptic about it? The updates come in the form of full downloads of the new releases.

P.S. Before installing from the store, you need to uninstall the old versions through Impulse/Gamestop, so do not get rid of Impulse until you do so.

Got it now?

A better system is in the works but even that will not be like the old updater that just modified new files.  The new Stardock Central will be a full install on every update.  Larger files?  Yes.  More archive control?  Yes!

I want to point out that the quoted statement above by Wizard1956 is not entirely correct. One category of items cannot be downloaded... My Colors Desktop Themes.  When I became aware that my subscription would soon expire, I used Impulse to archive all of my programs and desktop themes, and then as a check, I tried to to use the archives to reinstall all of the programs.  Not one of the some 30 programs and themes would de-archive for me. I then went to the suggested page at Stardock to download "full" versions of my programs and themes.  That was largely successful but any them with "My Colors" tagged to the front of it would only download a copy of "My Colors", not the actual desktop themes.  If I had not renewed my subscription, there would be no way that I would be able to reinstall these desktop themes again, even though I had paid handsomely for them out of my meager income.

There were statements by moderators on this forum saying that these would eventually be changed to a form that could be downloaded as distinct desktops themes, but it has been at least several years since those statements were made.  How much longer am I going to have to wait for this problem to be fixed.... or is this just Stardock's way of keeping their customers "on the hook" to renew their subscriptions?

In the context of the OP, my statement is correct.

As for MyColors, or it's themes, as a discontinued program is not a current release. I never bought any of them, and only had the free releases but I can understand your wanting the paid ones to be available for download and to work.

The WB's for some, such as Gloss Grey and Gloss Burgundy were encrypted, which makes them unusable now without MC installed. Some, like Winter, won't even apply with Theme Manager. without being activated by MyColors, a major FAIL, imho. (If TM worked in the first place.)

There were a few I actually liked, but being encrypted also crippled the ability for the community to make matching skins for them.

As you may know, they were for the most part, for XP and not Vista/Win7 ready.

MyColors was a nice idea that has run it's course and like any app made for previous OS's there is no guarantee that they will work in the future on another OS.

Who knows what Windows 8 will break.

If you bought a MyColors Theme, the theme servers that served them would continue to work.  All you need it the freely available MyColors app and the serial number from within it.

So when is the new Stardock Central coming? I don't have time to compare the current version number with the stardock page to see what needs to be updated. I won't renew again if you are going to lose functionality and simplicity for your customers. Thanks.

So, you don't save and backup things? If you did, you wouldn't pay twice, would you.
