Tga files and displaying black colour

Imported with SS PNG files to TGA for XP startpanel. I was bored with the normal rectangular look so I made a different form. With the Program Lists Background, the black colour is displayed with translucency switch on, as well as with the More Programs Background. Also the borders with semi transparent pixels are displayed as black on all parts of the XP panel.

Hiya Lecrayon....I've also tried to use TGA's for the MDI buttons, with no success. I haven't tried using them for the startpanel. If your getting black, with both transparent and translucent checked, then I'd say that it isn't supported.

make sure with tga file that you edit the alpha layer, you must define in the alpha channel which parts to be transparent, translucent, opaque, etc (edit the alpha layer, the darker=more transparent, black = transparent, and lighter = less transparent, white is fully visible, etc.)

o yea, and any background elements cant be translucent, only transparent (you cant make window borders translucent, onto desktop, you cant make startpanel background translucent and c ur desktop thorugh it, etc.) the mroe programs arow should be able to be a tga, mouseovers form menu items can be tga, logoff and shutdown button elements can be tga, separators can be tga... thats about it for the startpanel. for everything else u need to use a bmp, with transparent pink. (and the more programs menu has to be rectangular )

and for midi buttons, i usually jsut copy the toolbar underneath and paste it under the button for a psuedotransparency

Is it correct that these cannot be set seperately anymore, other than OS layout, top, center and bottom?

I seem not to be able to set these, nothing happens.

On the Title Bar of IE the buttons in TGA format display black background with translucency switch on. Also, using the textbackground with magic pink somehow displays the pink colour while this is not the case when browsing your puter. Is there a webblinds setting for displaying transparency correctly...

Please keep all your questions in one thread. Thanks.

Good one CerebroJD
Thanks Halluci, I guess it's the best workaround. But what do you do with the titlebar buttons when your topframe is set to stretch
I guess it's back to the magic pink.
Also, using the textbackground with magic pink somehow displays the pink colour

Yeah, found the trick, had to set textback active AND inactive to 254.

Make the image wider than the buttons, then only have it stretch the area to the left of the image using the sizing margins. Make sense?

yep, makes sense But it is a compromise... Especially when you work with images rather than "design".

My buttons are translucent in the all programs area. Its all a design trick. I just snag the start menu and place my button where it is suppose to be. Then I flatten the image, and cut out a slightly larger area, and save it as a bmp file. Therefore, there are no jaggies.

Translucency dosnt work on start menu backgrounds.Transparency only.(same with window frames).Translucency does work on just about any button.
