Completely hide Tabs

Hi there, just a small Question: Is it still not possible to hide the tabs-part of the tabbed Dock?

Small answer...No ;)

Could a opacity/mouse over option be added so that the tabs are hidden unless they're moused over?

I think that would be a great idea. It would seem perhaps not to horrible to program?

I've created a screenshot so that there's no confusion.I find it strange that this option is missing, considering you can control the size of tabs down to a minimum of 25%, it would seem pretty easy to just have a "Hide tab" option.

Don't mind the pug, he doesn't bite. :)

TURBO EDIT: I've messed around with themes and had mixed results. Tabs appear to be the controller for moving tabbed bars around. Editing & clearing the tab .PNG files is an OK work around, but the problem with this is there's no easy way to drag a single icon tabbed dock bar around. (urgh, this terminology is killing me!)

Burningfeetman since you show only one tab why not use a Zoomer Dock instead of the Tabbed?  I use both Zoomer and Tabbed docks on my desktop.  I normally have five Tabs on my tabbed dock.  I use Zoomer in two ways, two are set up with four or five shortcuts and when I need to fill out a theme I sometimes set up a Zoomer with just one shortcut or docklet like a Clock or Weather.  You can move both types of docks around on the desktop to where ever you want them.

Give it a try, it may solve the problem.  :sun:

The only reason I'm not using a zoomer dock is that they can't float. Unless I'm mistaken, zoomers only stick to the sides of screens? I'd be happy to use a zoomer dock if they can float mid-screen.

EDIT: Hold the phone, I see they have a "distance from edge" option, interesting! Strange how you can't just drag a zoomer dock around like a tabbed dock.

EDIT EDIT: Zoomer docks behave a little strangely when offset, plus they're not really designed to be floating. The original request of hidden tabs on tabbed docks still stands. :)

For the record, I'm using the purchased Objectdock Plus 2.

Because single-tabbed docks are an anomoly hiding the tab is not likely to be an option.

How would a user switch tabs if the tabs were hidden?

I think the point is to have a floating dock, so no switching needed.

I can see mass confusion and frustration if there were more than one tab though.  Moving the zoomer might be a better solution.

After trying a few other ideas, I believe the best solution would be to have the ability to hide a single tab tabbed dock. Obviously for multiple tabs, you need them visible, but for the tabbed docks that only have a single tab, it would be great if that single tab can simple be hidden.

Moving the zoomer I think may cause complications. I found some sticky pop-up icon text for instance, where if the mouse moved above or below the floating zoomer dock, the text got stuck.

Burningfeetman as I said in an early reply I use the zoomer dock for what you are trying to achieve and them around on the desktop with no problems.  I wonder if it could have something to do with what you are putting on the dock.  How many icons or shortcuts are you putting on the dock?  You did a screenshot of the tabbed dock but could you do one using a zoomer, it might be someone could see and figure out the problem.   :sun:

How about create a background with on-board tabs then take away the names. This dock has four tabs.

You can create one with any type of color or shape or frame and with tabs within the rectangle. I like this type anyway because they are more streamlined looking than the more traditional tabs. Download one from the gallery and see how it is done with the ini file and such and then you can create exactly.

Hi LizMarr, that's the work around I'll be using, as it doesn't break the dragging of dock either.

Philly0381, I can't freely drag zoomer docks about, and they're very tricky/awkward to arrange on the desktop (with graphical bugs popping up when they're "floating" mid screen too). Further to this, zoomers are restricted to a single array of icons, in comparison the tabbed docks can have a 2D array of icons (which is awesome!).

At the moment, I'll stick with no-named tab and a subtle theme to compliment them. Appreciate the help here though, this is a pretty cool online community. :)

well in this case you can use "Trans Text" a blank font I especially made for Object Dock

finally the text will disappear only changing the Tabs font  ! ;)
