Submitting modified skins

Based on existing ones

I was wondering if it's ok to upload a WB skin that I originally downloaded from here, was really cool and nifty, but wasn't really suitable for daily use (a lot of black text on black backgrounds and stuff). I spent a few days modifying it to the point where I'm really comfortable with it and I'm sure others might find it useful as well. The original skin is quite old, which might be the reason it took so much time to get it working with a modern installation.

So is it ok to upload this if I give full credit to the original artist and simply indicate that it's a mod?

The simple answer is no...... You must get the permission of the original artist. Just giving credit is not enough unfortunately. I hope this helps.

(if you tell us the name of the skin, we may be able to help you contact the artist, most of them are quite good about letting people mod their skins, especially the old ones. ) :)

It would be "OK" if and only if you obtain written permission (in email) from the original author of the skin, and include it in the zipped file. It would also be good if you were, after obtaining that permission to summarize and make clear the changes you made to the skin in your written comments, and provide a link to the original skin. Also, it would be good form to send your modified skin to the original author to see if he/she approves of the changes you have made.

If you cannot obtain the permission, you may not submit it for publication.

If you have any problems getting in touch with the original artist let us know who it is. Some of us have been around a long time (far too long) and might be able to help :)
