[RESOLVED] Latest revision of WB 7 Does not load all the time with Windows

HI,

I am running the latest release of WindowBlinds: WindowBlinds 7 [v7.30.047] (65.0 MB) (About WB says v.7.3 Build 310) and just once in a while and it is very random when I boot up WindowBlinds does not load. The service is running and if I click on the WB icon and run it manually then apply a theme it works fine. Then it will load OK for several reboots thereafter and again once in a while it will not load.

All I have loading at boot up is the drivers for my Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard, Norton 360 and the standard Acronis Backup and PerfectDisk Services.

Again this is pretty rare and random.

Any ideas what can make WB stop loading on boot up randomly like this? And no I do not have the system set to automatically reboot on error. I know that was a fix for a while during the beta.

Thanks!

Might it have something to do with the number of programs booting or their sequence?

Hi,

I tried the new WIndowBlinds beta they put up for us but it applies themes ok until reboot then nothing. No theme and will not apply new ones. If I reinstall it works again the first time but after reboot it craps out again. Going to post to terch support too.

Your Windows Graphics Experience score is

. I recently had a meltdown and had to reinstall Windows I now have a fresh clean install of the OS. I installed WindowBlinds and it asked for my email and reg number, I puy them in and it took it just fine. I went to apply a skin and it asked again for the registration info, took it,  then did nothing. It never asked for the registration info again but it will not apply any skins. Here is the about info:   "WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.2 (build 297 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS"

along with a long list of posts with issues. https://forums.wincustomize.com/posts/960669

You've had trouble with every build, not just this new one, which is working for everyone else. Also from what I've read, you like to go poking around in the registry. All this leads me to believe most, if not all of your problems are specific to your rig.

You had good results once LINK  but I suspect you've "tweaked" your way into more trouble or have a bad component somewhere. This is only my opinion, based on observation.

P.S. If your WEI scores are missing because they need to be updated, do so.

Hey gang!

It was probably an issue with the number of programs loading or their order as DrJBHL said. I used Sysinternals auotoruns to trim down my unnecessary startup programs then did a "repair" install to WB7.3 build 310 and so far, 20 or 30 reboots later. It's working like a charm again.

I will post any additional anomalies as they come up.

Thanks!

Joe

Hey Wizard1956,

Why thank you kindly for keeping such great records of my trials and tribulations with the stardock products. I hope I don't have to post any anomalies from here forward now that I took the plunge and upgraded to the full Object Desktop.... ;) My biggest issue to date, since you're keeping track, was when I first bought WB7 and could not get it to activate. Took days of waiting for tech support but they finally fixed it. Other than that, I believe the other posts NOW, have just been issues with me adding/subtracting programs and not realizing they are wanting to start at boot up or they added a new service etc.. etc.. I know to look at these now. And if all else fails a good repair install never hurts. I try not to do a full un/reinstall as then I have to do another activation and I know they have a limit on that before you have to contact support.

Oh BTW:

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of  6.8
Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 6.8

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.3 (build 310 - Windows 7 Edition) - 64 bit OS

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
(Generic PnP Monitor) 1 is attached to ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series

Cheer,

Joe

I can't take credit for that. The forums keeps a record, I only refered to it to try to track down the source of  your problem. (troubleshooting things is in my blood, I guess.)

I suspected it was something that was happening on your end, well out of Stardocks control and in my "infinite " wisdom, I was correct.  :-"   Tune your system, that's fine, but I recommend you make restore points to fall back on if/when things get weird. Better still, image the drive after everything is installed and working but before disabling any services or making any modifications  ;)

As for ODNT, if you have questions or problems, by all means, use the forums for answers,  but there is no way anyone on these forums or at SD can help you with issues you create yourself unless you log and post everything you modify/alter/delete so that a crystal ball isn't needed to try to sort out your issues.

At any rate, it's good to hear you got it sorted out.

Can you add "resolved" to the OP as a courtesy? TIA
