How do I find people to play Sins with

I have had Sins for a wile now, but I cant get the multiplayer part to work. I have the main game and thats it (I know it sucks). So any help with trying to get it to work would be nice ;)

Also since I have never played the multiplayer part I would like to play someone who would take it easy on me :p lol

Well if you only have the Original it will be tough as Entrenchment and Diplomacy add so much to the game. Recommend buying them. At $10 a pop, they are worth the $20 spent.

Well most of the multiplayer regulars are on Diplomacy now, so it will be pretty hard to find a game unless someone else who only has the original game stops by looking for a game. Only a couple of mods like Maelstrom still support original Sins as well, so sadly you have to worst of both worlds.

Further, I advise that the Devs add custom map sharing to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.

Yeah, almost all of the action is on the Diplomacy expansion server.

You said you couldn't get it to work?  Are you clicking the button that says "Ironclad Online"?  The "Multiplayer" button is for setting up direct connect to IP games.  The public online multiplayer where you would meet strangers is the "Ironclad Online" button.  Also, you need to have the most recent version of Sins installed to get online.  So you need to have registered your CD key and updated your game with Impulse, which is like a type of STEAM.  You can get it here:  http://www.impulsedriven.com

The current version of regular (Vanilla) Sins is v1.191, so at the bottom right of your screen, it should say "v1.191" if you have the most up-to-date version.

Now, the big issue for you is whether or not it makes sense to spend $20 on getting the Diplomacy expansion, which requires the purchase of the Entrenchment expansion.  You really might be better off waiting for 6 months (or however long) until the upcoming stand-alone Rebellion game is released.  It's going to cost $40 and you can no longer receive a discount for owning Diplomacy.

Thanks for the info and heads up everyone.

Yes I do have the v1.191 version, but I didnt know that I had to go to the "Ironclad Online" tab to find a game lol. Knowing that will help alot lol.

But I will wait till the new Rebellion game comes out so I will keep working on my game play style with single-player so that I can get faster.

Again thanks everyone ;)

See this DS? Sigh.

If you have the basics of single-player down you might as well come online - once you understand the basics, the strategies used for playing other humans and the strategies used for playing against AIs are extremely divergent.

That said, if you want to be able to see anyone else online (without setting up a match beforehand) you'll have to get Diplomacy and play on that server instead...

Does anyone play this online anymore? I logged into the game server, no one was on except myself. Its... a little depressing, I want some fun! Action! all that good stuff? Is there a certain time players meet?

Unfortunately, Sins has low player counts.  For some reason the vast majority of Sins buyers never thought to try it online.

Diplomacy is definitely the server to log onto.  Normally there are several 4v4 and 5v5 games every night, but you do have to wait a bit for them to fill up.  What tends to happen is that one game will end, the players will come back into the Lobby, and then a new game will get set up.  (Sometimes they can fill very quickly when this happens.)

The best time to play seems to be Sunday afternoon, North American time.  Also, in general, the North American evening.  Say from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm U.S. Eastern Time.

If you don't mind waiting some, there are often enough small games going on in the middle of the day, although it might take a bit of waiting for the players to show. If you're looking for games at 4 AM US time though, everyone's probably asleep :(

And there are generally quite a few players on in the evenings (US time), and even more on the weekends, as DS said.
