Can't Restore Any of My Object Desktop Programs

Hello,

My Object Desktop subscription expired two months ago. I just had to format my PC and unfortunately I found that I wasn't able to reinstall my programs (None of them)

Of course, I was aware that after the subscription expired I wouldn't be allowed to download the software again, so I did my homework, investigate all I could about it and made the proper arrangements.

I followed the exact instructions given here: https://www.stardock.com/support/archive.asp
And here: http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/Impulse:_Archiving/Restoring_Programs

But sadly with no success.

In short, this is what I did:

1. I made the backups via 'Archive Application', saved them into a USB portable media device.
2. After formatting my Pc. Installed impulse, copy the backups to the instructed folder (...Impulse/backup), Clicked 'Restore archive", After a few secs the "Available" status is changed to "Installed" (sometimes to "Recently Installed") But this last less than 2 seconds, then it goes back to "Available" as if I never did anything.

So If I'm fast enough and manage to click "run" while the "Installed" status is still shown, The selected program asks for some .exe file, obviously that file is nowhere to be found.

I don't understand what is happening, I followed the instructions step by step.

I also have an active subscription of Cursor FX, So, I decided to try this one too. I installed the program normally, then I saved the backup with 'Archive Application', uninstalled and then tried to install using the restore function but again it wasn't installed.
This is very weird because, I tried a second time, but this one with ‘Download & Archive’ option instead of ‘Archive Application’ and this time the program was successfully installed.
I also noticed that the 'Download & Archive' file backup is slightly bigger than the 'Archive Application' file.

By the way, I'm trying to install everything to the same OS I had.

Please, I would really appreciate any help you can provide me.

Thank you for your time.

Hello CulexRPG, I am experiencing the same problem with restoring Object Desktop after a format and I was wondering if you were able to solve it. I realize that this was posted quite a while ago but I'm hoping that you can help me anyway. I did locate some backup files with the suffix ".impulse" however there doesn't seem to be one for Desktop X. I also have all of the program files. Let me know if there's anything you can help with, Thanks, Ron.

By the way, the links you provided don't exist anymore.

End of Zubaz's quote

It is highly unlikely CulexRPG will trip over a two year old thread.

Do as was requested of him by Support ....;)

I assumed he would receive an email if he received a reply on any thread. If the site has such a feature.

The simplest and easiest way to go (but certainly not the cheapest) would be to renew your ODNT subscription. If all you have are Impulse archives, you really need to replace those with the current stand-alone installers. You didn't mention what OS you are using but be advised not everything is ready for Win8 yet.

P.S. Being a member since 2/07 you should know by now to "assume" nothing. ;)
