Good Enough to Upload?

'Cause I don't want to be uploading inferior stuff on here. Especially considering my first upload may well be this:

My attempt at some hard drives to compliment the Fett Windowblind by MikeB314 and the various skins based on it. Do they suck? I'm not used to using the pen tool, and I have no idea how the weathered look was done originally, so I just winged it and did the best I could. They're 512x512 png's originally. What are the best sizes for uploaded icons? Anybody know of a good way to convert them to .ico?

Thanks:grin:

Good enough? Yes.  I think so. Do you have permission from Mike?  This would be required.

You probably already know this, but since you're new at uploading, I thought I would point it out.

Icon Developer by Stardock is the best way to convert them.    B)

I was typing as you posted, CG...lol.

I'll (hopefully) get permission in another week or so. I'm thinking I might have a go at some Fett folders while I'm at it because I'm a glutton for punishment. Seriously, I've developed a new found respect for the Fett blind and everything it's spawned since, no wonder Mike's a Master.

If Icon Developer is going to be the best way to convert them, then it's going to be a couple of weeks or so before I can upload them.

Thanks for the info RND and CG.

I think you should look at how other artists depict drives, Starcandy. Some put letters on them like C,D.E.F... others make them look like drives. With Fett, I think the letter option is the better one, but that's just me (I'm not a Gallery Moderator so don't worry about my opinion at all. ;) )

I think your work is just fine and will probably improve as you get more used to the programs. I think looking at how others address a project is a good way to learn pluses and minuses.

That's a great blind to be inspired by.  I've used it for years because it recolours so well.

Good luck with permissions!

Icon Developer is part of Object Desktop, and a must have for a skinner. I don't make icons but Icon Developer is a great tool for reducing the size of a graphic without distortion.
