Convince Me To Play

I have had this series for about a year. I play off and on, but I just can seem to get immersed into the game. The graphics are top notch, the interface is clean and intuitive, and the overall concept of the game is enticing. However, I just cannot seem to keep myself playing.

It just seems like I build ships, jump to another system, attack, establish a presence, build more ships, jump to another system, . . . . .

I am not knocking the game at all, it just may be that it is not for me. I don't want to play online, as that is not my interest. Maybe there needs to be some alternative mission objectives other than conquer. Are there any? If so, maybe I have not invested enough time in the game to experience those. Can someone convince me to keep playing.

For the record, I love GC II, although I don't have much time to play.

Thanks for any input.

This sounds typical of playing larger scenarios against the AI.  If you're not interested in multiplayer (which plays very differently from this) then the best I can suggest is to try smaller, faster-paced scenarios where losing one or two front-line planets exposes the enemy's homeworld and lets you mop them up fairly quickly once they're losing ground.  As you've probably noticed, there's really not too much to be said once the AI is on the defensive, and it simply doesn't have the capacity to bounce back.

In multiplayer, there's a continual give and take as both players try to wrest for the upper hand.  A scenario like you're describing would cause the losing player to surrender; there's just no more fun to be had once one side is essentially incapable of resisting or fighting back.  If that's not for you, I can respect that, but don't expect an AI to form complex strategies to circumvent your defensive placement.

Or just try to play anainst harder AIs and impose limit to yourself how many star bases you can build. You can also try to ally more AIs against you.

Just finished playing against vicious AI with 0 SB limit on point blank map. It was tense and fun. Kicked his ass. B)

There are always mods as well. Sadly none that make the AI better, but they can add quite a bit of replay value.

Otherwise, just hope that new game modes will finally be present in Rebellion.

This might sound insane, have you tried role-playing the game?

play with friends, when I play with friends we always have fun times specifically because we have weird "WTF just happened moments"

It actually sounds like online is your interest.  Playing against the AI is rote because the AI is rote.  For an evolving game, you need either an evolving setting, or an opponent that evolves it's tactics to match you.  Sins AI don't, and the evolution of the setting, from min to max research, is a lot shorter than a large game.  You may not like cutthroat gaming, I don't either, but a person on the other end is a big bonus to the grind.

I did a role-playing game once on ICO...there was hardly anyone online except this 10 player free for all...then, the host starts saying that we all have to role play...

I was like...what the hell?  How do you roleplay in sins?

I kinda just went along with it to see if the people were serious or if they were just really bored and trolling people...it turned out they were serious and got really upset when people didn't role play with them....suffice to say, I couldn't take any more of it and quit after about 20 minutes...

I'm not trying to judge or anything...but it certainly wasn't for me...and, well, put simply, you just don't see role-playing on sins very often...

End of Seleuceia's quote

Role playing in a PUG, and honestly really role playing while playing is hard and akward. But with by role playing I suggest you 'create' factions and backstories. Then role play it out via your favorite outlet...fourms, MSN, LARP, etc etc etc...then say a couple of factions get into a fight...bang...fight it out via the game.

It takes some outside the ball park thinking and rolling with it but, role playing is possible and adds depth to the game. If your looking for a new vibe for it.

I don't trust I'd be good enough for online, I love just playing the AI's in very long drawn out games where I'm role-playing that my race is trying to survive and thrive with 3 other hostile A.I's.
