Blank Icons - Flyout/Stack Docklet

I'm trying to resolve issue of blank icons in stack docklet. They worked fine in XP SP3 but since upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit I am getting only generic icons. I have tried clearing icon cache but does not resolve issue. I have read it may be related to permissions/multiple user issue in Win 7? Using search function I found post from last year that possible solution is to remove registry key -  "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\iconhandler". What is the best way to resolve issue, preferably without modifying registry?
