I was playing a SP game of Diplomacy as the Advent and found myself unable to upgrade my Starbases after researching upgrades in the defense tree. Has the upgrade process changed since Entrenchment, or did I miss something?
Another possibility is that you lost some labs needed for the upgrade you wanted.
There was no option for me to buy any upgrades for the bases when I had them selected. I researched the upgrades (didn't lose any research bases either) but my starbases only had three icons showing in the UI panel (attack, the default level of fighters available in a starbase and the gravity well option).
There should be an Upgrade Starbase button on the right in the first row above the Squadron Management button, looks just like the above mentioned Squadron Management button. From their you should be able to do all kinds of upgrades.
The defaults should be attack, defense, and strikecraft. Double check. If you have a starbase with upgrade levels left, check this by mousing over the main upgrade button in the upper-right corner, defense should definitely be highlighted(if it wasn't maxed). If it isn't, do you have any mods running? Those might be interfering with things.
I honestly think that Bylak2 is referring to the main action grid not the starbase upgrade menu.
