systems at war (map)

this is mine and my roomates favorite map and we normaly do a 2vs2 on this and we were having some problmes last night. my roomate jsut got diplomacy and i told him that we should put the dificulty on easy and turn raiders off.....he didnt listen to me :( After he clamied his first star system he instanly went to the middle star system(wich is what we normaly do) i told him that i think it would be better if we went to the other to smaller ones to try to kill one of the AIs before the get to powerful ( i play as advent and my friend plays as TEC, we were vs a TEC and vasari so i wanted the vasari dead first dure to phase out missles). needless to say we lost i lost all my econ and he was stuck in the middle system trying to defened it from raiders and the other 2.

This is my question when anyone plays this map wich do you think would be better to go stright for the main center system or the smaller systems first?

I'd say definitely go on the offensive. The starting systems on this map are extremely porous and easy to attack, with homeworlds right next to the star and just about every planet open to attack. You should be able to get a foothold in their star systems relatively easily and move for the kill from there. The central system is tempting, but defending on this map is so impractical that your best defense is a good offense. With pirates enabled, there's really nothing to be gained from colonizing the central system. You might get some mileage out of leaning on starbases on the stars, but I wouldn't go there. Given that the stars are readily accessible, you can lean more heavily on support cruisers and carriers on this map than you would otherwise be able to. Sorry for the lack of paragraphs, something is up with the forums right now.

oh thats fine darvin. but yeah i whole heartedly agree that the 3 smaller systems should be taken out  first. specialy if the pirates are turned on.
