find animated bmp.'s so I can replace the spining globe in the upper right corner of IE?

There's no such thing as an animated bmp. If you want to replace to throbber in IE, I'd recommend WebBlinds, which you'll have to purchase an Object Desktop subscription from www.stardock.com to get.

check out: http://www.virtualplastic.org/html/logo_thr.html for some info on what you need.

As AJCrowley mentioned you can't get animated BMP's, you need to put a series of them together to form the animation...

However, this program: http://www.dezina.com/bitstrip/ will allow you to convert an animated .gif to a series of BMP's.
