The Secunia PSI is a security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. It checks installed application versions to latest versions in its web-based database and alerts you to update. This application could easily be either manually run or set as a scheduled task and doesn't need to be launched at boot.
