Margins, padding and snapping...

I recently downloaded Fences as I wanted a nice way to organise my icons and it seems to work really well. I like it!

However, I have an issue with the spacing and sizing of the panels themselves. If you're like me, you probably want everything lined up neatly and evenly spaced, which is the only thing I can see missing from fences.

Now, unless I've missed it, I'd like to see a "Margin" option that puts a margin around each fence panel and an internal option "Padding" that sets how far apart the icons should be from the edges of the panel.

I also find that snapping is kind of an issue here (While it would probably be fixed by the options above) as the only snapping ive seen so far is that the tops and bottoms of panels can be snapped to fences that are to the side, or the left and right edges can be snapped to fences above or below. What i'd like to see is for the left hand side of a panel snap (to a set distance set by an option) to the right of one next to it etc, or to the bottom of one above it, or the top of on ebelow it.

Like I said I really like Fences, but these missing features kind of bug me a bit.

Opinions?

Are you discussing the "Free" version of "Fences" or "Fences Pro"?

In my "Fences Pro", things seem to line up nicely.

There currently isn't any sort of margin, padding or snapping distance adjustment at this time. I will suggest this to the developer for perhaps a future release of Fences. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi,

You are not the first user to ask for these features, however thank you for your input!  We have your suggestions on "The List" (tm).

That feature would be important to me also. Right now the icons within a fence are very close together so that icons in a second row overlap the labels on the first row making them impossible to read.

Likewise, I have my fences arranged with a slight border between them, but it takes a bit of careful finangling to get them there in a consistent manner.

I'm pleased to find Fences finally obeys the horiz/vert icon spacing settings in Windows, though. Not sure what update fixed that, but I remember that being something I've just had to "live with" for a while. :)

HI all, I just wondered if this feature request had made it any further up "the list (tm)" :)

+1 on this enhancement request.

In the meantime, I just installed Fences Pro and in each fence, the icons crowd the left edge so far that the border around each highlighted icon is cut off by the left boundary of the fence.  It's no big deal but it looks shabby and I'd like to fix it.  Anyone else see this?  Can it be fixed apart from the enhancement features?

TIA,

Do you have your icons set to a different size from normal? Fences should compensate for this, but sometimes it fails to do so properly. Try holding shift while scrolling with your mouse wheel to see if changing the icon size forces Fences to re-calibrate.

I've finally had enough and need to. I've used fences for years and I'm getting frustrated with the LACK of a PADDING and ALIGNMENT feature in even the PRO version. Yes I am anal but I think that if the developers asks users, what percentage of the PRO customers consider themselves also on the RETENTIVE side, you'd find an overwhelming are are like me, YES I'M ANAL! Why else would I spend the money to organize my desktop and let's remember, WINDOWS BY DEFAULT SNAPS.......AND FENCES DOES NOT.
