Stardock, take my money!! Pleeeease!

I never wanted a credit card, I never felt the need for one. Then I decided to buy DesktopX, so I applied to my bank for a credit card specifically to buy DX. I have now been trying to purchase DX online for around two weeks, and each time i fill out the form, my card is declined!!
Yes, i DID contact sales @ stardock to tell them, but they just said keep trying, or mail us a check. Well, I live in the U.K., and I don't want to go to the hassle of getting foreign currency money orders and waiting two weeks for it to get there, and two weeks to get back. And, dammit, I got that card JUST to buy DX, so I refuse to use any other method. My point is, surely Stardock are losing money this way. Am I the only one who's card they are refusing? (and yes, my card is good, I rang and checked.) How many others are just walking away saying, "o.k., I'll keep using the demo version". Come on guys, I want a registered version of DX, please take my money.
Has anybody else had a problem purchasing using this method?

Purrrr... BoXXi, whisper me the #'s and I'll use your card.

BoXXi - I believe all credit cards require some sort of authorization prior to the first use as a safeguard against misdirected mail. You might check the back of the card for a telephone number to call.

Of course if you've done all this, then nevermind...

Ask your card compsny if they allow international transactions. They might not especially when it concerns a rate of exchange. Your card might only be valid for pound tranactions.

Good point Bill, I didn't think of that......
But isn't that the point of having a credit card?, "Accepted all around the world" or so the advertising blurb says! If I cant buy online with it, then they are getting it back!
I will check that though, Bill, Thanks!

I just called my credit card company, and they said that there is no problem with international transactions, and that the fault must be with Stardocks authorisation software. Maybe they are using a demo version, lol.

That might be your primary concern but most people just use them to buy clothes or dinner. Just tell your card company you wish to make charges to USA acounrs. I'm sure they will be more than willing to assist as the convertion usually comes with a service charge. I'm getting ready to move to London in mid September for six months and I'm going to have my cards converted to Pounds for the duration. It should help in the long run.......

Good Luck

BoXXi, if you wanted, you could send a cheque to my UK address, and then I could order you a copy by credit card from North America, then email you the registration info.

Thanks AJ, If I'm not successful, I'll definitely consider doing that.

Juni and I had the same problem when we visited the US this summer. Our card kept coming up rejected, and we'd gotten the damn thing specifically for the visit. It's totally humialating to try to explain "It's not our fault!"

We called the bank to bless them out, but they claimed stupidity. Our card is supposed to be good internationally, but obviously it's not. *sigh*

We've never had a problem online, but I do feel your pain. Obviously someone is screwing up. It's either your bank, your card company, or Stardock's card service. The sad thing is, neither of them know enough to know they're screwing you.

The world wide web ain't worldwide.

one other thing to consider (and something that the rep you spoke to at your credit card company may NOT have thought of) is that a lot of Credit Card companies require you to call in to activate the card (which Russ already mentioned above) AND they also require a purchase to be made at a retail store to fully activate it. It could be that your company isn't considering anything online/phone based a retail store. Take your significant other out for dindin and try it there first and then give SD a try.

On a side note, what type of card is it and how many digits are in the card number. As far as I can tell (working at a worldwide bank) ALL MasterCard and Visa cards are now 16 digits...
