Need help getting Dreams working after Reinstall *FIXED!!!*

I apologize if this has been answered, unfortunately the Search function is not working for me to find a similar post.

I recently had Vista reinstalled after I had a nasty virus. I saved the Stardock folder i had in program files...and all the dreamscenes I downloaded in another folder. Now, I have installed Impulse again, and its running, and allows me to download new dreams....however, it doesnt show as a dreamscene once downloaded...it looks like a white sheet of paper logo. And all my old dreams look the same way....and when I right click them, there is no option to set as my background wallpaper. You guys are my Stardockbabies (nod to Solarbabies)..and any help would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I already hit up support last week...still no answer...so I turn to the forum of power!

What version of Deskscapes are you using ??

Also try copying the Dream files to your system drive [usually C:\ DRIVE] > Documents > Stardock > Dreams folder

Also, make sure all your Video drivers are up to date...

Wow...you guys are quick. Thats awesome! I need to check on what version of Deskcapes I'm using..I know I got it back in like 2009...and never really updated, since I saw many people complaining about the new versions and flaws that came with it. Mine worked just fine so I never updated. I will try copying the files over to C DRIVE and see if that helps. Will get back to you with the results on that.

Did you install DeskScapes after you installed Impulse? Your post reads that you may have restored your original folders to where they were after your reinstall. If that's what you did you will need to reinstall DeskScapes for the options to show in your right click menu.

If you're running Vista Ultimate you probably had the "Ultimate Extra", DreamScene, installed and the free version of DeskScapes.

It was for Vista Ultimate only and can be found here... DeskScapes 1.2 . Be sure to run the Windows Update and download DreamScene prior to installing it.

One thing, the newest version of DeskScapes is 3.25. It has it's own GUI, special effects and it's just plain awesome compaired to the original. There is a trial so if your on the fence about buying it, check it out and I'll bet you purchase it before the trial expires.

I'm running Vista Home Premium...thats also what I had before...and I paid for Deskcapes..... It wasn't free. Yeah...so..how do I install Deskcapes without paying for it again? I appreciate everyone's time and help on this...means alot to me. I feel like I have everything I need....but somethings missing here. I'm sure its something so simple.

Did you see DeskScapes listed as one of your downloads under the "My Software tab" in Impulse?

If not, click on the "My Account" tab under your name in the top left of this forum and look under registrations to see if its listed and if there's a download link for it.

It says Deskcapes Installed under my software tabs. What else can anyone recommend? Should I uninstall impulse and delete everything stardock related? And put all the dreams ive saved over time in an external for time being? I dont know what I'm doing wrong here. What does restore archive from the upper left tab do? would that help? Stardock support still hasn't gotten to me. Thanks-

Do not do that.

Do not uninstall anything. Wait patiently for SD Supprt to get to you.

Do not resend your problem as it will kick you to the end of the queue.

After reinstall of Vista....I installed Impulse... then, as requested by another member..I then just put all the dreams I had in a folder into the c drive folder in program files under Stardock. So I have Object Desktop and Deskcapes and Impulse under the Stardock folder in program files. The logonstudio thing works. Impulse works....I have all the codecs and drivers and everything. I feel like I'm supposed to Install Deskcapes or something..or reinstall it. It says Installed under the status on Impulse. I clicked on Run...but I never had to do that before back in the day when it was working. I do have my old Impulse folder also located in the same folder of all Stardock material...could that mess with it? I'm just gonna take that one out and the dreams I saved and have it on an external..just to know there is no conflicting going on. After I try that...I dont know where to go or what to do.

Also, should it say or be set at something when I right click a dream file? Like open with? what should it say on open with?

Since it was copied over, don't have the choice in your right click menu. Best thing to do would be uninstall DeskScapes and then re-install it.

I still don't know what you did, but you can't have 2 Impulse folders in the Stardock folder unless you renamed one of them and , frankly, I'm clueless why anyone would want it there.  Any .dream ext. files go in C:\user-data\<user login>\Dreams

Also, should it say or be set at something when I right click a dream file? Like open with? what should it say on open with?

BTW, Sorry to be THAT guy...never had any pc problem that the computer Techs I work with here at my job, or myself couldnt handle. They are unfamiliar with Deskcapes and Stardock, so I havent bothered with them.  _Carguy1- I assume I should see something that says Deskcapes  under Programs to uninstall. I will look for it and go that route.    _yrag- I did rename one of them..I believe it's because I put my old one there first after reinstall of Vista, and then I went to install Impulse from online, and had to rename the old one v1. Might be conflicting as it is confusing, but I didnt want to lose any old info I had connected with my purchase and whatnot, so I put everything Stardock related under the Stardock folder , hence 2 impulse folders...old and new.  And ur last part, I will look for dreamtasks....however I dont have Deskcapes3..its 2.50. I can feel some people just thinking and wanting to advise me to just purchase the new one to skip all this hassle of this one not working..hahaha. Where's the challenge in that! Haha!

Sometimes it's best to cut your losses and go the easy way out. Since you have 2.5 you probably qualify for a discounted price. Is all the work trying to figure it out worth the cost of the upgrade?

As for the uninstall process, try to do it from within Impulse. Since you didn't do a conventional install, I doubt there's an uninstall choice in add and remove programs.

I just wanted to say Thank You to ALL of you who replied in helping me with my issue. Wanted to let yall know I GOT MY DREAMS WORKING AGAIN ON MY DESKTOP BACKGROUND! It was simple...I just put all of my dream files and stardock related folders in my external drive....removed and uninstalled anything Impulse related on my computer. Reinstalled Impulse.......logged in to my existing account....went to Deskcapes and Installed it....and that was it...everything worked. I assume with installation of impulse the first time and having other impulse and stardock folders from before might have confused the computer. Again, thank you all for taking the time out of your life to help me in mine. Much appreciated...Cheers!
