There must be a word for that....

I just downloaded a really nice DX theme and half-an hour later realized that I'd just been sitting there, moving my mouse here, there (ooh, look at that)... Nevermind trying to get any work done.

How often does that happen to the rest of you guys?

Hum, yeah, it happened to me a few times. Only problem is that it only lasts about an hour, then the animations acctually start to be annoying.

I don't find that the animations get annoying... just lose thier thrill. As I've said before... I have more fun doing the DX objects than I do using them.

Yes, doing them is a whole load of fun, I agree. Annoying may be too strong of a word. Lets just say that they indeed lose their thrill, and after a while I go "all right already, just open the darn program!" Hehehe!

magpies (birds) collect bright shiny object to decorate their nests with. These objects are of no real use to the magpie, he just thinks they're pretty.

You sir, are a cyber-magpie.

It's kinda like when you go to the fridge for something in specific, yet when you get there, you suddenly start cataloging the food (i.e. blanky staring into the fridge) and you never actually get what you wanted in the first place.
(Commonly called amnesia fridgdotis).

Or when you want to go to the toilet, but end up on a closet somewhere. Or when you find yourself in the kitchen and you have no idea what you're doing there or how you got there.

like when you read message board posts from Hippy, and then stop and wonder what the subject was back at the top...

-_-

Destinesia - going to a room to get something and forgetting what it was when you get there.

Russ....magpies are also NOT a cyclist's friend. I remember watching a road race once when all the riders came in at the end, throwing down scores of broken pumps that had been used to fend off attacks from them.
I've been hit a few times....and there is nothing more embarassing than to grab some poor excuse for a pump....a 6 inch long telescopic thing in an attempt to fend them off....

Haha...another thread topic successfully hijacked by Jafo...

How about when you read something Hippy wrote and wonder just what they consider "sane" where he lives.

Or like when you read posts from crae and suddenly have a compulsion to by three deadbolts for all of your doors. :-o

this is what happened with me

1) downloaded desktopX
2) downloaded some good looking skins
3) had em installed for 5 mins
4) found it unusable cause although it looks nice it just isnt functional
5) uninstalled it 30mins later
6) installed winxp for the real XP feel

Yep. The Desktop Magpie analogy is really applicable.

The whole GUI fetish kind of reminds me of those religious books and cards where each day you open up a little cut-out window/door to see what's behind it. You go "ooohh pretty!".

'Course the real issue is trying to find the right balance between form and functionality. That's half the fun of it.

That said, I love my interactive desktop.
