[1.1] Weird Symbols on the landscape, bug or feature?

I does not happens all the time, but it has appeared at least twice. there are some weird symbols overlays that appears on the map only during gameplay (they are not in the map editor). I was wondering if it was a feature. Here is a shot:

 

 

As you can see, there is some dark stains in the middle of the dessert, and on the grasslands on the left, there are some wavy and curly shapes drawn in light yellow.

 

Take note that I have been hacking the XML, so I might be the problem. But I have not see these shapes anywhere else. Maybe there are cloud effects in the defined CoreEnvironment XML?

I've seen them for awhile, here and there on the landscape.  But not in every game, I think.  Anyway, no clue to what that's about.

What graphics settings are you guys using? High, low, medium...

I am not sure, I would need to check, but since my video card was not so great, I think it was pretty low.

I don't see a low to high setting.  I have ground cover at 10x.  Video card is a nvidia geforce 7300GT so nothing special there.

I've seen this too. It could be crop circles.
