Is This Game Playable?

I purchased this game today at Wal-Mart for 30 bucks and I got it home and tried to play it some. It has been, so far, totally unplayable. I tried to update it and the Impulse software cut my download speed of 1/3 of what it should have been downloading at. I bought this in hopes that it would be a modern equivalent of MoM because I loved that game and sunk so many hours in. I have more than the recommended specs and the game still plays terribly slow, they're are huge chunks of my map that are just black with no terrain, the characters (When I can get them to move) move at a snails pace.

My main question is, will this game ever be playable, maybe after I get patch 1.1 if Impulse isn't being terribly slow....

Yeah, it's playable. I only crashed once in about 500 turns all added up. My only <X3   is that the AI is too easy. I have not tryed on the max difficulity yet, but the AI was like a small child trying to tell me, a king with an army of 200 archers, to give up, then sitting around and making no attempt at growth with the 50 turns I gave to the AI to do something. Along with the underwelming magic system and the unbalanced gameplay, I was board after the first two games.

You should wait until the modders get to work on the game or the game AI is smarter then your average carpet.

I think the game is great. I also keep updating my EXE to the latest one that Frogboy puts up and the AI IS SO MUCH better. Still has a ways to go though. I know that a lot of people are probably not playing the AI on the hardest difficulty because you have to manually set each AI to the difficulty you want.

I read about that, but where is the latest EXE?

My friend and I have been waiting with anticipation for the community to start saying the game is fixed. I just don't want to waste my time and get tired of playing it before it's even finished. We are big fans of GCII and have sunk many hours into it. I think Stardock can bring something to the table that other companies cannot. Civ 5 turned out to be a highly polished sim-farm, it doesn't even come close to GCII. I am waiting for that kind of depth and customization in another game, hopefully it's this one.

It's playable.  It's not great yet, but it's definitely passable.  I occasionally crash, but it's rare.

If Elemental 1.1 were Elemental 1.0, most of us would be happy with what we've seen so far.   Given Stardock's support  history, I decided to  just knock .1 off all the patches, assume the game got delayed four months, and enjoy the ride.  They've proven that they're committed to making this better.

I bought a game though, not an investment... That is my only problem...

All games become better after a few patches. Some become MUCH better!   Elemental is one of the latter ones.

Just play something else in the meantime and come back in a few months time. The game will only get better with time. Myself I haven't gotten it yet (though I've followed it since it was announced) but I'll try the demo and MAY get it when the first expansion hits.

If you installed the update you also need to restart the game. Do not try to play in by using a old save.
